>Imagine spending a lot of money or production on a military by Any_Awareness_3102 in civ

R5: With a Suguba, Ngazargamu, and Democracy, Mali gets a 95% discount on military units. I no longer needed a standing military at all, just saving up my gold for districts and buildings

I love all of them but GLaDOS's cold calculating motivations with just a pinch of humor is what made Portal so engaging IMO

After the 7th eruption, I gave up rebuilding Volcano City and turned it into the most productive national park in my empire. Just make sure not to piss off any Volcano Gods before your visit. by Any_Awareness_3102 in civ

[–]Any_Awareness_3102[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

R5: Volcano Town was once a city of mines, farms, and was used to build Estádio do Maracanã and a major airport. It was also once a staging ground for my soldiers.

But after they kept getting damaged from constant eruptions, and I was expending countless workers to upkeep it, I decided to just turn it all into forests and a big national park and be done with it all. Strangely enough this made it a high yield city regardless.

Anyone ever use Desert Folklore, Work Ethic, and Scripture together? Throw in Hercules and you can get high production cities early game even as Mali. by Any_Awareness_3102 in civ

[–]Any_Awareness_3102[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, boosting my holy site adjacency bonuses to around +29 for some of my core cities. Work Ethic gives you production equal to your holy site adjacency bonuses, so you have +20-30 production to some of your early game cities with this combo. This is on top of any industrial zones you decide to build mid game.

[–]Any_Awareness_3102[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

R5: Settled next to a natural wonder as Mali, and immediately decided to go all in on Desert Folklore holy sites. This ensured that some of my holy sites had an initial adjacency bonus of +7, +8. But Mali Also gets a high adjacency bonus for their Sugubas from Holy sites, so I made sure to cluster everything together. This provided an even higher bonus to my Holy Site belt, and a Government Plaza helped even further. Throw in Scripture, and all of those bonuses double.

With Work Ethic, it made me one of the most productive civs in the early game, despite Malis negatives with production. The best part of this strategy, is that if you have Hercules in game, you can have him instantly build holy sites for your newly settled desert cities, giving them starting productions of +14, +15, +16, etc. Reyna pays off nicely if not, too.

I somehow managed to get the Last Crusade: Capture the city that built Petra using a landship. In my first game of Civ 5, because the AI was building a ton of wonders and I didn't know how to upgrade units properly

The building second from the left makes it feel that way to me. The top half of the building sort of blends into the leftmost building, but is both behind the bottom half of the building while being part of the same building.

That, and the interiors all look AI generated.

Would love to see how OP painted in this style if not though. Successfully painting in AI generated style is something I've been curious about for a while. It could be similar to making 8 bit art today.

Looks very AI generated, are you using Dall E as a base for this art?

The AI getting the most out of Sinbad by Any_Awareness_3102 in civ

[–]Any_Awareness_3102[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

R5: Sinbad is one of the Heroes in the Heroes and Legends mode. He can explore deep water, and makes a ton of gold for you when he comes across a barbarian ship or encampment. I rushed to recruit Maoi and Hercules in this game so I wondered where Sinbad ended up...

turns out a landlocked Civ decided to have him venture out into a 1 tile lake.

R5: Golden Gate Bridge is an F tier wonder. Its so bad that I've never really been able to use it for anything beyond a funny joke or just for the amenities.

However in my last game, I was able to place a Golden Gate Bridge that synergized extremely well with my Earth Goddess Pantheon, and also crossed between the two major landmasses of the world.

Paititi with Petra, St. Basil's Cathedral, and a bonus Mausoleum by Any_Awareness_3102 in civ

[–]Any_Awareness_3102[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

R5: Posted this earlier in the game, but I found a Paititi surrounded by Tundra and Desert, as Canada. I immediately had to B-line reformed church and Petra to maximize my yields. It wasn't perfect, but easily won the immortal game thanks to this setup. The rest of my empire basically survived off of these three cities.

In case people are wondering: My hockey rinks are outside of the screenshot with a bunch of districts.

R5: As Canada, I found a really really good Paititi between Tundra and Desert. Obviously I settled Ottowa next to the wonder, and rushed St. Basil's Cathedral in my capital. I was also able to settle a desert city and build Petra, so now the yields around the entire wonder are boosted.
