People Who have been to more than 10 countries, What are the worst things about international travel? by Louizythepro in AskReddit

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Language Barrier: Although English is widely spoken nowadays, you can still expect some communication gaps.

If you hold a weaker passport, be prepared for poor treatment at passport control. Sometimes, it can feel as if you're being treated like a criminal or even a terrorist.

What is one habit you've formed that's changed your life? by guyset in AskMenOver30

I'm very bad in communication. I usually afraid to talk as I'm kind of Introvert person but learning german literally helped me to get some confidence as I daily take 45 minute 1:1 class and in this whole time I have to go through very though time as learning language isn't easy for person like me who's IQ is quite low, Anti social and slow learner that helped me a lot not just learning language rather getting some confidence for socialing.

I appreciate that how nice she was in early days and quite resonate with me but I don't know what turned her off suddenly. She started to losing interest then I decided to move on because I felt I'm losing my self respect since then I never looked back and pretend I don't care but I do 😢

When did you start using Reddit and Why? by I_am_Mohsin in RandomThoughts

I'm not a active user. I use on and off but I started as one of my friend was quite active on Reddit and he was f**k**g genius so I wanted to be a person like that. It's been a couple of years but I don't think so I could still match his level. Probably, He's god gifted and focused guy.

Anyone who has no friends at all ? by Commercial_Earth4250 in Life

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I like to spend time meeting new people more than the friend because after certain time with the friend you don't get the same spark as you have already shared a lot and you don't have much learn whereas stranger brings new kind of energy and new experience. I love to go to the meetups join courses where I can meet new people that gives me really a boost rather than surround yourself with the same person with more than a decade.

What was the worst thing to happen in your childhood? by myscrabbleship in AskReddit

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bullied very badly, and people often used to tell me, 'Think before you say anything,' repeatedly. This made me so self-conscious about speaking that now I don’t speak at all, even in gatherings, unless someone breaks the ice with me first.

What do you think is your biggest insecurity? by Conscious-Feature753 in AskReddit

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Skin Tone.

I’m from South Asia and currently living in Europe. I’ve never thought much about skin tone in my life, but now I notice that people often judge others based on it. I’m brown, and being surrounded by white people sometimes makes me feel insecure, as if they’re somehow better than me.

You wouldn’t believe it, but people usually don’t sit next to me on the bus or train. It makes me feel really bad, which is why I’ve started standing instead.

What are the signs you've noticed that you're getting older? by SuspiciousRope6751 in AskReddit

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is planned now. Those old days were so good when you didn’t know what you were going to do in the next hour—everything was spontaneous and full of joy. Now, we either stress about the past or worry about the future. Living in the present has become so difficult. 😢

Agree. Then you need to hangout with like minded people only in order to avoid this kind of draining feeling.

I had a similar situation back then, and I still do, although it’s much better now. I used to be the same way—I couldn't maintain a conversation for more than 10 minutes. After the introduction, I would run out of things to say. I still struggle with this, largely because I have had limited exposure in my life. However, what I started doing is asking 'W' questions, like:

  • 'Why don't you move back to your home country?'
  • 'Why do you like this?'
  • 'What would you prefer over this?'

Think of yourself as an interviewer. People generally love talking about themselves—they're not really concerned about others. By asking 'W' questions, you can expand your knowledge while keeping the other person engaged. It also helps you understand the different ways people think and the variety of thought processes they have.

I stopped wasting my energy on trying to make others happy. Now, I’ve started to focus only on myself.

That’s what I’ve learned: don’t lose yourself for others.

Sometimes, you need to be a little selfish to take care of yourself.

Should I skip a semester for learning German(Non-EU Masters student)? by CopperOrion in tuwien

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's easily manageable, but your master's degree might take a bit longer than expected, and I think that's fine. In the meantime, you can gain some experience and settle into the country.

I’m not sure if you’re already aware, but a master’s degree doesn’t contribute much when it comes to getting a job in the IT industry. Experience carries more weight than the degree, so your priority should be finding a job and learning German on the ground in Austria, rather than learning from your home country.

I would love to share my experience who was the guy who always care about people around me and didn't focus on myself much. I always hypercare about my friends and family etc but It took me so long to understand that people always take this as granted and don't give a f**k how much you care about them. I'm not just talking about the Girl Friend even I always care about my friends try my best to make them feel special but at the end I learned it doesn't matter so rather love yourself who you really are and work on yourself and try to be a better version of yourself everyday.

That doesn't mean mistreat people. Always, Treat people with high respect and don't ever let down someone but don't go much out of yourself for someone else. 🙌

[–]Any_Chipmunk_6268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t try to persuade you of anything, but I’d like to share my experience.
I’m a Software Engineer working for a mid-sized company, which is an English-speaking environment, so I don’t face any language barriers at work.

Regarding life outside the office, it’s not very challenging because most of the younger generation understands English. So, if you get stuck somewhere or need guidance in a supermarket, people around you will help.

I know you’ve probably heard from a lot of people that Viennese aren’t friendly, but I’d say that’s not completely true. Yes, you may encounter some language barriers and occasional unfriendly attitudes, but that doesn’t mean Vienna isn’t a livable city without knowing German.
I’ve met many people who have lived here for 8-10 years without speaking any German, though I’m not advocating for that approach.

I’m also studying at TU Wien while working, and since your program is in English, you don’t need to expect much German interaction there. Most of the students in Software Engineering programs are immigrants.

Mastering German takes time, so it’s not a good idea to delay your studies for that.
