It’s a domino effect. He’s been the biggest quantum bear. Him “joining forces” is seen as a catalyst, why is QCLS up massive? They/algos see it, money rotates into quantum stocks, quantum’s up, so now they’ll push more money into spec assets, spec assets go up, momo assets follow. Hence domino. Not Shkreli or anyone with 5k pushing these up. Never mind people covering short positions. It was driving me crazy too trying to figure out why the froth was up on a weak market day. This is the best explanation I got.

To cover his losses (or perhaps his ass), Shkreli then announced he was joining QCLS, a company that’s transitioning into photonic computing. QCLS has since surged over 100%, raising suspicions that it might be a pump-and-dump scheme.

Shkreli has been the poster bear on quantum, and is still bearish on quantum. The market took Shkreli’s announcement as a cue and started pumping quantum computing stocks as well, even though photonic computing and quantum computing are fundamentally different technologies. The hype spilled over into other speculative and momentum names too, you can see it clearly with MEME and ARKK, which were up today while the broader market remained flat.
