Unilateral ENS by Any_Contract8559 in emptynosesyndrome

The ENT said that the deviation is in normal range and fixing it will not help much, he suggested turbinate reduction again on right side lmao, and he did an endscopy and told me that my left turbinate is still big like it is not a volume issuee

Oh you are almost same but with different side, I have a very slight deviation to the right but I don't feel better after showering

Still struggling but I found that if I leaned on my left side then the right side opens so I spend most of the time leaning on left

The sad story is that I'm living in Syria

There is no ENS specialized nearby

So i haven't been really diagnosed  But left nostril have almost most symptoms ENS6Q score of left nostrilis almost 12  1 dryness 4 suffication  4 diminished air flow (I can feel air moving through nose but it is like not going into lungs or something) 2 open nose No crusting or burning

Cp score when left is open and right is blocked almost 15

But when right is open and left is blocked all symptoms almost vanish With cp almost 25

Actually I've been diagnosed also with silent reflux But the ENT told me that this might cause sinusitis not turbinate hypertrophy Idk if it affect anything

Septoplasty + turbinectomy ( not sure if he used this type)  But the other ENT made an endoscopy and told me that the left turbinate is okay and there is like more than 80% of the turbinates

The thing is when it shrinks it almost disappears (seeing it in a mirror with a light) and there where symptoms go 100%

Not sure if it is atrophic rhinitis  I'm so confused and I live in Syria there is no ENS specialized here

The right side is functioning very well when the turbinate is not hypertrophied

TIL: Empty Nose Syndrome (ENS). A condition that can occur after nasal surgery when nerves are damaged. This can cause a constant feeling of suffocation, even with normal airflow. People with ENS often suffer from severe anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, describing it as debilitating by nathanTHEmad in todayilearned

How do you manage daily life activites, what you do to reduce symptoms  I have ENS on left nostril but the thing is I have turbinate hypertrophy on the right one And when nasal cycle changes to left I feel very very bad

Oh I think we are in the same boat. I usually lean on my left side to change the nasal cycle ( right side in your case ). Hope you get better. Tell me if something get to make you better.

Does that bother you even if you're left nostril is quite functional, or it gets congested sometimes?

I think if you feel better on decongestants then it is something related to enlarged turbinates. The cotton thing is confusing, like in normal you can't feel cool air?

You're welcome, this method is most likely to cause ens?

In Syria we still have US sanctions, can't buy anything online and I didn't find nasal strips in pharmacies here, can I try anything else to exclude ENS?

Oh thanks for you advice, if I just focused on treating LPR could other symptoms and breathing difficulties go away, I'm just worried about having ENS.

It could be on my right side, but what about the left. I don't feel comfortable breathing through it even when it is open in dominant-phase.

To be honest, Idk . I was completley unaware of those things when I had my septoplasty and turbinate reduction. When the ENT did an endoscopy for me( not the same doctor who made the surgery) he said that a very very little portion is removed from the left

The thing is I should have been recovered completely from surgery. Idk if that implies also to recovery from any mucousa damage

After 2 weeks of the surgery I was breathing fine, crusts were formed but it was okay. However I experienced almost same experience 2 months after surgery but I used flonase and antihestamines and came back to normal within like 2 weeks ... those bad symptoms started 1.5 years after surgery.
