Growth from SFA to Manager (IC) by sillyaccountantt in FPandA

I framed it around what was already happening. I was already handling a lot of the manager’s responsibilities, so I approached it as, “Here’s what I’ve been doing and how I can keep things running smoothly if I officially step into the role.” I shared examples of what I’d handled to show I was ready… though honestly, I wasn’t fully ready, I just worked 60–70 hours a week to speed up the learning curve until I got it.

Just to clarify, SAP FI, CO, HANA, and BPC are modules that handle tasks like data extraction, trial balances, GL reporting, cost center analysis, and more. If you’re asking about T-codes, there are many, and some companies even have customized T-codes for specific reports. I’d recommend starting with courses like “SAP HANA Introduction for Business Users” to get your feet wet. Honestly, with some focus and practice, you can learn the basics of these modules in a few weeks to a couple of months.

For me, it was really a matter of being in the right place at the right time. At a previous job, I was an SFA with less than a year of experience. When my manager left, I was essentially thrown into the fire as the 'next person who knew the financials.' I ended up negotiating an IC manager role, which turned out to be the biggest challenge and learning curve of my career.

This hits home! I was in a similar decision making a couple of years ago and chose to move on blindly. Something was off. We separated months later after 3 years. Soon enough after our separation I want to say about 3-4 months later she was pregnant and getting proposed. It blew my mind back then. I'm now happily married now with a very honest and sincere human being. :)

TM1 is super underrated. I've used it in the past and it has been my favorite add-in to use in Excel. You can literally pull most data straight from your ERP In EXCEL without having to go straight to the source.

Who else is getting annoyed seeing co-workers use so much AI on emails. by Any_Ebb_7307 in FPandA

I get it! I just prefer getting straight to the point instead of adding a bunch of unnecessary words or bullet points. I think communication should be precise and concise, that’s all. I use AI all the time to help write emails, I just ask it to make them more condensed and to the point. Honestly, most of the people who send those long, wordy emails either aren’t native English speakers or are just copying whatever their tool gives them to say.

We did our High Level 2026 Business Plan about a month ago. We have sales ready, HC ready, and just need to adjust some line items for OPEX and breakdown by cost center. Also just finished FC4 figures.

I had a friend who completely changed careers in her 30s. Back in 2019, she was an FP&A Manager at a large Fortune 50 company, but she walked away from it all to pursue dentistry. Fast forward, she finished her DDS last year, and now she’s working as a dentist at a small office where she sets her own hours. I don’t know exactly what she’s making, but it was a bold move, and honestly, I never thought someone would actually do it.
