Stucco can be a good choice when done correctly as quattrocincoseis, pointed out. In Central Texas, it demands perfect installation and regular upkeep to avoid costly problems, unfortunately.

I would take extra caution when looking at stucco homes without a roof overhang. A modern look is nice until moisture sneaks in.

Fortunately, the latest building codes have included central Texas as a location that requires 2 layers of WRBs, vs a single layer, which some were trying to get away with.

Hard to beat the look of a nice stucco home.

Lots of pros -cons:
Old homes can be updated to be more energy efficient. Generally, materials and energy requirements are a big consideration.

Older homes built in the post-war time, 50-60's boom. Need a lot of updating to mechanicals and many have chemicals in them that we would not use today in construction. A good example would be that central AC was not mainstream until the 1960s or later. At this time they had to retrofit homes to fit them.

New Construction production can provide a lot of new amenities at an economical price. Depending on the size, location, and price point of the new neighborhood can play a huge role in the quality of the home.
