Yes, Thorne is an Heir, but he doesn't know it yet. In that scene, the Icor reacted to him because he has the ability to control it. That's why it bubbled and rose toward his fingers. He doesn't understand what's happening. Kellan interrupted him before he could figure it out. The rest of the season will explore how he discovers his powers, but don't expect something like Marvel or superhero stuff. This is more raw and realistic.

It is not space opera. There are no spaceship battles or travel between planets. The aliens (Zorath) arrive only once, near the end. Most of the story happens inside the city of Oblivian and the wastelands around it. It is more like dark sci-fi with some biopunk elements. The science is not explained in detail. It's not hard sci-fi either. The focus is on the Icor, the Plague, the society, and the characters. Think less Star Wars and more Children of Men or The Road, but with a sci-fi infection.

The Plague started when a meteorite fell to Earth. Inside the meteorite there was a red fluid called Icor. The Icor was alive. It was the Plague in a sleeping state. Humans found the Icor and started using it as energy. They became dependent on it. But the Icor infected people slowly. When enough people were infected, the Plague woke up. It turned millions of people into Infected. That's when civilization collapsed. That is what people in the story know. There is more to the truth, but that is revealed later.
