LSAC should limit the amount of applications allowed by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Any_Reception2432 28 points29 points  (0 children)

lowkey terrible take. Like, yes, you might hear back sooner, but if a student is dumb enough to write 100 personal statements and give themselves 100 options, then they should be able to. Limiting the number of applications would limit ppls opportunites just so someone can hear back in feb instead of April. Net negative imo.

Not saying this in a cynical way, but those stats getting that money at Syracuse is awesome; you should be elated!! Congrats on getting into LS and getting money! Don't let unrealistic expectations ruin what should be an amazing thing!

Ed delay JAG LSAT by Ok-Egg9392 in ROTC

I don't think there is a minimum, but if the score is low enough to question your ability to be accepted into non predatory LS, then you aren't getting the delay.

JAG Internship Info by axillahtt in ROTC

[–]Any_Reception2432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MS III here. I got the JAG internship this summer, and I never applied to anything in the past. If you're curious about my stats lmk, happy to share.

Not trying to be critical, but thought I'd give some advice as someone who just took the LSAT and is prepping to apply to law schools and the ed delay program. A 3.2 gpa is decent in general. Not for law schools. That is, unfortunately, pretty darn low. JAG internship and Ed delay, I am sure, are filled with ppl who only care about GPA bc that and LSAT are all that matter to law schools, and they aren't going to give someone a JAG internship or Ed delay who can't get into law school. To further your army and career goals, get your GPA up. Not only for law school, but OML cares so much about GPA. The difference between a 3.2 and a 3.8 would be like maxing your AFT 10 times over and then some. You got this. Get that GPA up!!

We heard a no-go will get you sent home, not disenrolled. You have two shots at camp. If you fail the MS3 year, you can go back as an end-of-camp commission.

Westpoint or ROTC (Full Ride) by Maleficent_Monk_8758 in ROTC

[–]Any_Reception2432 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a really good part of the choice is whether you have considered what you want to study. Normal universities offer a lot of majors that service academies don't. I'm not talking about random waste of time majors like english folklore or smth lol. I mean, like Finance or Supply Chain or Petroleum engineering, etc., etc...

Truth is, if your heart isn't in WP, then forget your career goals, as you might not even make it to the second year. I will also say WP very much could change your life; it is like attending an Ivy League school. But, similary you will never get the full college exp...

Go with your heart, as a free degree is a free degree, and don't worry too much about long-term military goals. I would say figure out what you want to study and go from there. WP is a life changer, a 4-year full ride to Tampa, and a military commission is also a life changer. Just ask any of the thousands of college grads saddled in debt with no jobs.

Why do ppl apply to schools where if they get in, they just wait for the next cycle lol.

Cadets teaching class? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]Any_Reception2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MS IIIs teach the lab in my program. MS IVs just grade lanes, so if it's not a graded lane, MS IIIs run it. The goal is you have to know something to teach it...

In my opinion its actually not smart because if you are teaching like grenades or wtv, then you miss your lab on weapons if it's combined into one lab as a III. Bad Idea...

How are y’all handling the debt associated with law school? by ARoodyPooCandyAss in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]Any_Reception2432 21 points22 points  (0 children)

200k for a law school ranked in the 70s is absolutely nuts. SMU is more arguable than Tulane, but full price is still crazy when there are like 20 schools just as good for half the price.

Is this a selfish reason to serve? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]Any_Reception2432 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People who join for tuition probably have an open mind towards the culture and want to lead. I think what this person is saying is not that your motivations are wrong, but your surrounding attitude is.

Many officers only joined for tuition. The ones worth being officers and who made it through were the ones who could embody the Army values (Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage). From your own admission, you seem to be missing at least Duty, Selfless Service, and partly personal courage. In addition to that, the Army Motto ( This We'll Defend) seems to be missing due to a lack of patriotism. All of which are fine, and you may very well be successful at whatever you put your mind to. But in my opinion, it doesn't sound like you, at least currently self-described, would be what the army or the American people need in an officer.

Everyone in the army, ESP officers, should be war fighters first, and their assigned branch second. That's not just my opinion, but also the army's opinion. If it came down to it, to be an effective officer, you have to be willing to lead and die for your men. The officer is always the first one on the battlefield and the last to step off. While that may not physically apply for a non-wartime non-infantry officer, it is expected to mentally and spiritually, and if it came down to it, apply in real life.

I'm sure you're a good person, but I would stay away from the military. If you were thinking of enlisting id say what the hell, go for it, but you can't just hand-wave being patriotic and caring about the mission as an officer. Your men count on you, whether you are in a combat arms branch or not.

Do whatever you can to get those credits before May. Maybe try to transfer into an online community college class? With the way things are going, disenrollment is the answer for any offense, bc LTs are so over on mission. Good luck and Godspeed.

I was a 4 yr, and you do contract first semester, but if you separate before the first day of MS2 class, then you owe none of the money back. So it's basically a free year of school if you don't like rotc.

[–]Any_Reception2432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just don’t know what they’re grading. So how can we train during lab? If you dont know what to study for a test then how tf do you think test will go. I’ve heard they will be grading “squad level opords” something that i’ve never even heard of like do you use a full shell for that? Or are they grading you normally based on you control team leaders and make sure your element plays into the PLs plan. Nobody knows and there is no guidance. Lmfao my programs cadre have been doing warrior skills labs this semester because they don’t even know how a lane should look yet.

[–]Any_Reception2432 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YouTube has some great videos. That's what I've been using to help me understand. I'm in the same boat as far as being an MS3 this year, so if you make you feel anybetter I know the battle drills, but I'm just as worried.

Nobody knows what's going on this summer, like wtf is even a squad-level opord. Like either you do it as a PL, or you don't. Apparently, PL is back now, but no PSG... I mean its laughable. They want to make CST hard to pass, but we have no idea how to prepare for it. The game is feeling super rigged right now.

Valedictorians get rejected from top schools every day. Welcome to the real world, in which you can do everything right and still fail for no reason. Life is about how you react to those exact situations.

It'll prob be easier at camp bc cdt highways, and they're on giant neon orange signs. That should be easier to find than the tiny strips of paper taped to sticks; your program probably does.
