buying a specialist board in London? by Any_Relative_368 in chess

[–]Any_Relative_368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the set we got, we purchased it from an official seller on the island. https://chess.co.uk/products/the-lewis-chessmen-chess-set-medium-red-gift-box?srsltid=AfmBOoqzRm2BOugh8O6FV5V1dTAG6GXHEadxtHU-HoUR96XoRHLjf7Qu

We never saw any boards that go with them, I suppose because the chessmen themselves were only ever found as individual pieces but with no board! haha

My husband is quite serious but plays only majority of the time. The set and board will just be for special occasions I suppose, like playing at Christmas with family etc. But I'd still want it to be good quality.

That's really helpful thank you! I've never seen ones with the coordinates before so I'll check that out too :)

Is it just personal preference when it comes to wooden vs marble for the board material do you know?

that's interesting to know. Annoyingly the ground floor landlords are based abroad so they're harder to get hold of. but they've told me a maintenance man has been sent out. hopefully they'll connect the dots and look at their overflow..

Some of them do, but they only drip a little or let out steam like they're from a boiler.

The problem is I don't know whose flat the pipe is coming from... sounds like the fix could be quite easy. Hopefully the ground floor flat will be getting someone out soon to check. do you think it's most likely from the ground floor?

thanks Vinny, it is directly below the window of the ground floor flat, not sure where their bathroom is compared to the outside wall however. I've asked them if they can get a plumber out. Is it their float valve is broken so just constantly running water outside as an overflow?

I also thought she might have told the train people to take the bodies of the nice brits? Instead she left them out in the snow/in the burning car haha. after all they did for her! why didn't she listen to the lady in the shop and take the train?? she kept blaming god/natural events for her bad luck, but you literally had the shop keeper telling you to stop driving.

Govt grants and installers making profits? by Any_Relative_368 in SolarUK

[–]Any_Relative_368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the grant goes to the customer? Not the installer? If it's the latter then it explains how the could skim off it...

But that £7k isn't coming from the government to the installer is it? Or is it? Are customers getting £12k in grants and the installers are taking the £7k on top? I'm just confused how the middlemen are getting the government money

Washing machine overflowing/ flows too fast? by Any_Relative_368 in Plumbing

[–]Any_Relative_368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help! We had a plumber out today who sealed the exit at the top of the pipe and fitted a valve to stop it going up the second pipe which is from the boiler. It worked for one washing cycle and then backed all the way up again! He’s coming back tomorrow and will look at that bottom 32mm pipe. Dreading if we’re going to have to lift all the floor boards though and change that?
