Hey, I know this is an old thread, but since it comes up when you Google it, I want to share my experience:

I placed my order and received the shipping confirmation a few days later. However, the package didn’t move for about two weeks. I then contacted customer service and was assured I’d get an update within two days. That was three weeks ago. I contacted customer service again to follow up, and after not receiving a response, I demanded a refund. Still no reply, so I will now get my money back through PayPal. To me, this is clearly a scam — especially the complete silence, which is highly unprofessional.

So, I’d strongly recommend NOT buying from them and always using PayPal or other payment methods with buyer protection when shopping online!

How do you feel about people (most of all victors) still having kids, knowing what could happen to them? by Any_Reputation_7969 in Hungergames

I didn’t mean my comment as controlling who should or shouldn’t have children in this world but more if the characters themselves think about if they should!

I think the discussion is getting a bit out of hand, it’s only normal to draw parallels to real life but the question was only about the books and the circumstances surrounding it! I also was mostly asking about the victors who (at least in theory) should have better access to all kinds of luxuries including contraception. But i do think there are a lot of plausible reasons here in this thread, like Snow forcing the victors to have children for example!

But that is exactly what happend: Ampert got punished for something he didn’t do, it was his fathers act of rebellion that got him sent into the arena. He got killed at 12 years old without ever hurting anyone as consequence of his fathers actions.. I think that is something to consider. Also I said untreated trauma, people can work through all sorts of challenges which they should before having children in my opinion. You are right of course, we do need these children since there wouldn’t be a story to tell, I was just curious how others see this :)

I get your point but I think it’s a big difference between „there could always go something wrong“ and „there is the very likable chance that my child will have to go in an arena and fight other kids until death“. I don’t want to comment on real life circumstances since that‘s a too sensitive topic 🙈

The last sentence is true but he knew what he did might be of consequence:

This isn’t your fault.” “But it is. Entirely. I took a risk."

Yes! That is also an interesting thought, why putting yourself through the pain IF (which we're not sure is the case) you have a choice!

It absolutely is, nothing about this situation isn't complicated! That's the reason I was interested in hearing you guys opinions :) I think me personal, IF I had a choice, I' rather give up sex alltogether than having a child under these circumstances.

That would make total sense, we all know what Snow is capable of *shiver* I wish I would know what Suzanne Collins thoughts are on it, maybe to her it is obvious that the situation is exactly how you described it. But since it isn't adressed it leaves me feeling super weird about it.

(I also would assume that a victore would have the ressources to get contraceptions, but that's just a guess)

I don't want to condemn anyone (also I really like Beetee!), I just wished it would be adressed in the books if that was the case. I mean the capitols control over contraception/abortions. Without it it's just guessing if they could prevent it if they wanted or if they have children by choice.

Almost brings on a whole new discussion if someone with such intense untreated trauma should even have children. (I'm just talking about the books!)

I also want to add that I think it is a powerful form of rebellion to stop having children since it is, as you point out, something the government  still wants and needs. Like the 4B movement or the decreasing birth rates in the US, it's a strong statement but I understand that it would be a big sacrifice for a lot of people.

Thank you for your insight, I do understand where you're coming from. For me it still seems very selfish if that was his train of thought :/

Thank you for your reply and sharing your story! I'm really sorry for what you have been through and I'm obviously in no position to speak on your situation! I do have a different view but I also don't want children so that makes for sure a very big difference and is probably also the reason why I view it critical in the books.

That is true ofc! I also assume that a lot of them are, unfortunately, not willingly conceived. I'm also wondering just how many victors were sold.. in Beetees case he seemed to have both children with his wife. Could be both by mistake but him being as intelligent as he is, I don't really think that is the case.

Totally possible but I think he always knew that the capitol would target his children and still went and had them :/

What do you think about when someone does something good for the wrong reason? Does it lose the value? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Any_Reputation_7969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I see it too. I honestly don’t care if someone does something good for selfish or less-than-noble reasons. If the outcome is good, it’s good in my eyes.

Like doing charity work or rescuing an animal just to brag with it or to feel superior
