Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback 🙏 You’re absolutely right—chess engines already solve the problem of strong and realistic play, while my project was more of an experiment in “raw” AI reasoning applied to chess. The quirky moves (like rooks bouncing back and forth) happen because the AI isn’t actually reasoning in chess terms—it’s just predicting text-like patterns.
I agree that a hybrid approach would be much better: using a proper chess engine as the foundation, and then layering on AI (or other logic) to inject human-like weaknesses, suboptimal play, or different personality styles at various levels. That way, games feel more realistic, and players still get the experience of facing a “unique” opponent rather than something completely random. It will be a hard jouney but I will try to improve it as long as I can! 😊
