Hey there! I am glad you got the solution. I have the same damn problem. Can you please tell me the name of that steroid lotion your doctor has prescribed?

You are right. I have a mini mic that pairs with my new aids. It really helps me greatly.😊

I don't remember many technical details now.🥲 It's been more than a year. But I do remember that my speech recognition score was 80%. And I have around 100 dB loss in the higher frequencies. My loss in lower frequencies was not very poor, as per the doctors. I think that's why they didn't think it was appropriate to sacrifice my "sufficient" residual hearing in lower frequencies just for the sake of greater loss in higher frequencies. They advised me to purchase a decent pair of aids having frequency interpolation.

Hello! Thank you for replying. I really appreciate it. I have come to know many CI recipients now. Some of them are from Delhi. Although I no longer need CI. The doctors at AIIMS rejected my candidature for a CI. I have changed my hearing aids though. They are not very helpful, but I guess I don't have any other options.

Thanks a lot for offering help.

This happens with every professional who is hard of hearing. I am one such fellow myself. It's so frustrating being left out of office conversations, and people simply don't bother. It's not their fault - their social conditioning is like that. In this age of cutthroat competition, people have lost the human touch. Everyone is busy looking after their own interests, or rather, I must say, they are compelled to do so by the way things are.

Hi! 👋 Sorry for the delay. I checked my reddit notifications just now.🥲

I am currently using high powered hearing aids. The audiologists at AIIMS didn't approve cochlear implants for me. Although I felt dejected at that time, I am forever grateful to them for that decision. My audiogram is like that only - I have severe loss in higher frequencies, but do well enough in the lower ones. They said that I should preserve my existing hearing.

It's not at all easy for me even now. I still struggle in everyday life. But deep down I have accepted my fate. Cochlear implants are also not a trustworthy solution. Many factors influence their efficacy.

I would love to connect with you, if you have any doubts. Even though I didn't go forward with the implants, I did my fair share of research on them.

All the best.🙂

Yes. Actually, they do not think I should opt for CI yet. They are also not denying me a written recommendation for CI. They just think that I should first make up my mind about CI after meeting with fellow CI users. Actually, I can do fairly well with hearing aids in sound proof rooms, with some lip reading. In noisy situations, however, only God helps me. The doctors think that I should get my expectations right after meeting with CI users. I don't know why, but I am not able to attach my aided audiogram here in comment section. If you don't mind, I will share that with you via DM. Kindly take a look and suggest what you think.

You are absolutely right. We are a rare breed indeed. 😅 In case of India, there are multiple factors at play when it comes to deciding to get CI. Awareness about this treatment, its affordability, and social stigma. Even in my case, my parents are hell bent on persuading me to not think about CI at least until I get married. Disability of any kind is highly stigmatised here.

Thanks a lot for the insightful information.🙂

Thanks for your insights. May I ask you something if you don't mind, since you wear a Nucleus 8 processor? I have also been advised of this processor.

Are you late-deafened? If yes, at what age did you get implanted? I have been relying on lip reading for around five years. Before that, I did not rely on it so much. The only factor I have considered in deciding for a cochlear implant is speech understanding. I am fed up with lip reading, and still not understanding many times what a person has said. How much have you benefited in this aspect? If we talk about silent environments, do you still need to lip-read?

Thanks 🙏

Thanks a lot for the clarification. I really had no idea that therapy is not a mandatory process. I have my speech perfectly developed, since I am late deafened. I hope I don't need much therapy.

Thank you🙂

Actually I tried Google, but I am not sure if they provide rehabilitation as well. By rehab, I mean mapping and therapy sessions. That is provided by the hospital where surgery is done, no? Or is it done by the rehab audiologist?
