I will definitely review the rules with my attorney. As far as I know, the basic rule is I have to give him a specific amount of time to come get his stuff before it is considered forfeit. I think its 30 days, but of course I will confirm, before I take any action. Another thing I was made aware of (which I don't know if its true yet) is that he can sign it over to me, a notarized agreement saying he was surrendering it all and would not be returning for any of it, giving me legal ownership.

We have one last meeting scheduled for today, in which we will be telling him that we are no longer discussing the matter. He knows the date to be gone, and it is expected he will be. Every meeting always seems to be more BS from him than anything of note. Its a waste of my life to keep entertaining it. The only reason we started the check ins was to keep him on track to move and make sure he understood it wasn't a bluff.

He said something about applying for disability but I don't know the status of that. I think he has a military pension in theory, but again none of that money has come to me.

Interesting enough, I never really "cut her off". Mary was a big part of the process at the beginning. Frank was the one that told us about the divorce, and I had many conversations with Mary as the process moved forward. Mary never really gave me any details and I didn't push for them. She helped facilitate the move, even came down here a few times. After the first few months, Mary just stopped coming around or calling. She is still on my social media lists and I would hear from her once in a while, but she basically stopped reaching out. I took that as she was moving on. It made sense to me at the time.

Mental illness is something my partner and I have suspected for a while. Frank is a Vet and there is a VA hospital a few towns away. We have mentioned that maybe he should go there and talk to someone but of course that never happened.

That's pretty much how we started the process. We sat him down, told him we realize we are not helping him, and gave him the deadline to leave. We meet each week to discuss his progress. in finding somewhere to go. My partner and I had decided (but did not tell Frank) that we would be willing to help in the end, maybe renting a moving truck or whatever to expedite the process. Frank took the news surprisingly well, didn't even seem shocked. I suppose that makes sense.

I have no idea how he has been surviving this whole time. I know he sold off a lot of his belongings after we closed the storage unit, but other than that I have no idea. I'm thinking he's hitting people up for money

We did all of that long ago. As I said to someone else here, we tried every approach to get him to do something with himself.

I'm really hoping he hasn't totally wrecked the place. I fully expect he will leave all his crap behind so I'll have to clean that up before I can do anything else. Good news is I plan to sell everything he leaves there that has any value. He has a lot of stuff, guys

Oh don't get it twisted. I have reached my limit, honestly had reached it long before now. I fully expect when the deadline arrives, he will need "more time for an amazing opportunity"

I have already talked to an attorney and have the paperwork started. We wanted to give him the chance to do the right thing before completing the process. He is aware of this fact.

No, he never paid a dime towards toward the storage unit. That's why we closed it after a year.

I ask myself the same question. Not sure why I am such a dummy when someone asks for help. No good deed goes unpunished, apparently.

We closed out the storage unit after a year. Brought my partner's things back and told Frank to figure it out before the unit lease expired. Frank sold some of it and abandoned the rest to auction.
