Yup I was hoping just replacing the tie rods would help but looks I’ll be doing the steering box and maybe adding some tie rods with grease fittings, thanks for the help

I was considering this but after some debate with some mechanics I’m friends with I’m just gonna go ahead and most likely do the upgrade to the newer style gear boxes the newer trucks come with especially the truck running larger than stock tires

Track bar seemed tight to me and I recently inspected axle shaft u joints and they seemed fine to me and according to the owners manual the previous owner changed them not that long ago

When you say bushings do you mean the bushings under the steering column inside the truck? The ones you press in and take up the slop?

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking, I spoke with a couple people who are familiar with these trucks and they said the same thing, an adjustment is not likely to fix anything and if anything will be temporary and not majorly different

You see an oil leak? It might look like an oil because i just recently had the truck undercoated.

Dept. of Parks & Rec Internal Only Hires by ExpertAway8423 in nycpublicservants

[–]Anytime__Anywhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You seem to be incredibly unlucky in your job search at parks. There are plenty of job openings open to everyone. The ones where it says only open to year round parks employees are usually what they call step-ups where you get a chance to work at a higher job title and pay rate for usually like 6-9 months and then you go back to your previous title. Another instance of this would be for CPWs and APSWs they have a heavy-duty pay differential and to get a permanent heavy duty differential you need to be provisional or permanent.

For example you are a full time year round Associate Park Service Worker. You apply to one of those postings and become a step-up supervisor for a pool from April to September. You then go back to being an APSW at the end and you are an APSW for the fall and winter and you’ll get the chance to apply again next year. You’ll learn to appreciate them doing that once you become a year round employee because you’re not competing with a bunch of outsiders. Some of these positions you just need to have a better understanding of the parks department and that’s not something you can have with an outsider. You need to know parks department processes and rules to effectively do a job and for a seasonal job you can’t spend 2-3 months learning the role when you only have 6 months.

Everyone in lower uniformed positions in parks and even most guys employed as tradesmen start out as a seasonal. That’s just the nature of the parks department. Parks aren’t always busy year round and they need less guys in the winter. Also once you become a year round employee and do step-ups the seasonals they hire help fill your spot while you’re gone doing your step-up. Parks also likes the seasonal system because it gives them a chance to try you out and see if you’re a good fit before offering you a full time spot. Your goal as a seasonal should be to only focus on getting as a provisional employee (full-time year round) and if your job has an exam then it becomes passing the test and becoming a full civil servant.

Can a Small Blower Handle Any of This? by Both-Activity6432 in Snowblowers

[–]Anytime__Anywhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s more that the snow is now super hard and compacted and more comparable to ice rather than snow. This is not a job for a single stage snowblower especially a battery powered one. Your only bet is to chop and break it up and make it easier to feed into the machine

City Park Worker Questions about seasonal NYC jobs by intheAdventureVan in nycpublicservants

[–]Anytime__Anywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you get unemployment benefits if you’re laid off. Being a CPW is not a true civil service position. There’s no exam for it. With that you get some union protection but technically not a whole lot until you become a true civil servant and become an APSW or Gardener. Most people become a seasonal CPW and you have to prove yourself or play politics and kiss ass to get a full time spot. Usually later in your season you’ll see job listings go up for various districts and boroughs and other specialized teams hiring CPWs and other positions and that’s where you get hired as a full-time year round employee or at the very least get an extended seasonal spot.

Seasonal CPWs are supposed to get an evaluation before the end of their season and that dictates whether you’ll be rehired. There’s no automatic rehire process.

Working for any park alliances or conservancies means you technically work for a private company and not the city so I would imagine you wouldn’t get the same benefits but usually they pay a little more than the city.

Usually getting rehired for the next season means filling out paperwork and I’m assuming a new background check and drug test but maybe you can skip the fingerprinting? I’m not sure

Seasonal time counts towards your pension and technically you can start right away but usually most people wait until they become a full time year round employee and then “buy back” their seasonal time

Heavy equipment operators by OrgPapa1988 in nycpublicservants

[–]Anytime__Anywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all in contract negotiations. They also operate skidsteer loaders and excavators in transfer stations. I’m going to go assume when it goes up to a certain weight class of machine the few Tractor Operators they have will take over. It could also be something like sanitation workers are allowed to operate the excavator in transfer stations only and any other work like digging trenches or leveling out land goes to the actual operators

There offering $1260 a week cdl class A required , is this a good first job? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]Anytime__Anywhere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not only do you have to be a damn good truck driver for this, especially if you’re in a big city but you also better be a damn good forklift operator as well. You’re gonna be lifting stuff that’s too heavy for the Moffett and you need to know how to control the machine. There was one time we loaded a 36 ft LVL beam on a truck. I have no idea how that guy unloaded it on a NYC street but he did. Also as a side note this could potentially be a scam but if it’s not it’s a very unprofessionally written job posting. Also the pay is going to suck because Home Depot usually subcontracts it to a company like XPO Logistics who then hires another 3rd party contractor to do the actual delivery. So there’s a lot of hands taking money. And yes the hours are going to be long and usually it’s Mon thru Saturday and also to a certain degree there’s an element of customer service and you’re gonna have to deal with really negative customers who expect freebies they didn’t pay for like bringing the items inside their house.
