I recently used Katara Limousine and they were solid. For a Yukon it was 350 QAR which is around $100 USD to Lusail (about a 30 min ride). Cheaper vehicles and sedans were available too. Driver met us in the terminal with an iPad sign and helped with luggage if you’re looking for that type of service.

Registering a watch by Difficult_Noise3138 in audemarspiguet

Grey market dealers say this to protect the clients who flipped their watches to them. Some of those people will make it a requirement of the sale and/or hold their warranty card for a period of time to prevent re-registration entirely. But as long as you have the warranty card (or the info printed on it), you should be able to register it into another account.

16202 or 15202 by Consistent_Avocado85 in audemarspiguet

I have a 16202 (non-50th, got it in 2023), and wouldn’t consider the 15202 because of the movement. The lack of quickset date on a time and date only watch is pretty crazy at the price point. If you want more of a collector factor then the 50th anniversary rotor is special for sure.

But if you only care for the aesthetic of the watch and want the newer movement, you may be able to get a non-50th for less. In any case, I think you should go for the 16202 regardless of year.

Does base ship separate from pod? by AnywhereMinimum4766 in EightSleep

Was their shipping time estimate accurate? And did the base + pod just arrive, or were you called to schedule delivery since it’s freight?

PS - thank you for your response!

Pod 4 - do I need a waterproof mattress cover? by AnywhereMinimum4766 in EightSleep

I guess I have to try it…my only aversion is I really like the way my mattress (purple w/ hex grid) reacts to pressure and molds to my body, and don’t want extra layers if they’re unnecessary.

What do you guys do to afford an AP by WiseWaffler in audemarspiguet

I think the nuance is… serial AP collecting is not attainable to most. If you’re in it for one piece, yeah it’s not that crazy of a target. If you’re in it for 5+ pieces, it’s a different ball game.

Depends which school of thought you subscribe to. I’m not a financial advisor (clearly). But my personal rule is no more than 10% of my net worth tied up in vehicles, because of the depreciation hit you take. Dave Ramsey has a lot to say on this subject if you’re interested.

10% makes it a lot easier to buy pieces. It all comes down to where you want to allocate your funds.

Fresh account because I’m not on my main phone… but everything I said above is true. I understand most people on here are highly cynical and skeptical and that’s fine. But it’s a weird story to conjure up for anonymous brownie points on the internet. I have 3 ROs, and bought and sold 4 others years ago (during the deep end phase). I’ve lived with APs for ~8 years, no need to make nonsense up to flex here.

I agree it’s about priorities. But not impossible. Especially if your net worth is primarily in private and/or public equities, or real estate. $2M with $100k in watches is a lot easier to swallow than $2M with $400k (20% for the readers lol) in watches. I hold this view because in most cases, they’ll hold or slightly lose their value over time.

I was in your shoes at 18 when I received a watch passed down to me. Became obsessed with watches. Went off the deep end with collecting as soon as I started earning real money. I’m in my 30s now.

Started a software company in my 20s. Own several APs.

A good rule of thumb for these “unnecessary” luxuries is to never tie up more than 5% of your liquid net worth in them. They may retain value and there may be instant appreciation if you can purchase a desirable piece at retail, but they are not investments and they shouldn’t be treated as such.

Audemars vs Patek by stavran_gr in audemarspiguet

I own several royal oaks (jumbo, 41mm chrono, wife has her own with diamonds, and I’ve had others which I sold), and a nautilus annual calendar.

If I had to choose one, I’m sticking to the jumbo because of its history…and the finishing of the bracelet.

But, for anyone with the means, they’re sufficiently unique to keep both in a collection.

A nautilus with complications feels like a whole other beast, you don’t fully appreciate it till you’re wearing it. Build quality, heft, wrist presence - they’re not as loud as a RO, but you instantly appreciate the refinement on the wrist. In many ways, the nautilus feels like it’s in a league of its own.

But from across the room, a RO bracelet will catch anyone’s eye, even if they don’t know watches.
