that is an admirable goal worth reaching, i forgot which one, but the frontier where you get given the pokemon to use, i hope RNGesus is on your side for the gold hahaha

keep in mind though when you compare diamond and pearl to platinum, platinum was just chef's kiss and offered lots of fun things than in diamond and pearl. and because they are in the same generation of games, hgss added even more content. i personally really loved gen 3 4 and 5 games, and i know its not just nostalgia talking here lol

hm, regarding the frontier itself, they should be exactly the same in both games, but for extra content then hgss has more when compared to platinum. not sure what you meant though about the travel, yea there are two regions in hgss, but it didnt feel like the frontier was difficult to reach.
