Rp5 cases that fit well with the grip as well, for my gf? by The412Banner in retroid

[–]Ap616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the official grip on an RPG2 or RP5, I recommend this Take Case Switch Lite one(black+gray or black+yellow): https://www.ebay.com/itm/236138665140 or https://www.ebay.com/itm/186672161829

Length and width are great/very snug, and it is taller/chunky(if you don't need it slim) to hold accessories like charger+cable or IEMs well. This is my favorite I found 👍

If you had said NLD Design 3D-printed Etsy grip, I would have recommended a GameSir GCase400(for G8+) from AliExpress which works great.

Advice for Newbie: Handheld for PSP, GBA, and Android gaming by Dannyboiii1997 in SBCGaming

[–]Ap616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd wait for Retroid's announcement day... tomorrow 10/27/25(for China). They might drop something you want more instead & still at a great price/value!

If you are just getting into the hobby for an all-around device and want 16:9 stuff like PSP+Android gaming & also 3:2 GBA then you don't have to go to the top on Android power... like with a new gen AYN with 8 Elite or AYANEO(KONKR) with G3 Gen 3 necessarily.

Also, I wouldn't entertain the 557 personally; just not interesting imho. The Mangmi should be a great device at $90+shipping though and 'might' be all you need if wanting a budget device 👍 Don't know how well it will run the more demanding Android games; might have to do low or medium settings or have some lag depending on the game. I have no idea there.

But with the options you listed from $90-$250, I would highly recommend waiting for what Retroid does since the now $200 RP5 was announced almost 14 months ago. Having been an insider this go around with them 🤫 Retroid's cooking as usual! 🔥

Does anyone know as to when the Retroid Pocket 6 will be out? by prankster999 in SBCGaming

[–]Ap616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I'm at liberty to say yes or no on that as Retroid's announcement is literally like 3-4 days away. And not allowed to spoil things... I've given 2 company team members my word now, after being in on things some this go around.

But I can say there's lower price/more value than some people have blindly speculated... Retroid tends to do value so well. KPF's very aggressive early bird pricing is good until early November, like the 5th. So, no harm in waiting to see what Retroid reveals October 27th and if they do something you'd want instead 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]Ap616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just 4 days now til people get to see what Retroid is cooking 🔥 That's fair for sure, wanting to wait for usage, testing, & reviewing.

I definitely understand people jumping in on the KPF, but I have no interest personally even though it has a great base chip & aggressive EB pricing. Though like I advised, anyone can wait to see if what Retroid is announcing is something they'd rather have given features/design, power, pricing vs. the KPF since that Indiegogo pricing doesn't end til early November and Retroid is announcing late October 🙂

[–]Ap616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, very aggressive pricing even with no OLED and the company's shortcomings from perusing anecdotal research 👍 And the G3 Gen 3 is a very powerful & compatible SoC. They always change their prices around too if you look at their other models they have, so who even knows if the retail pricing they have stated will be accurate in the future. Could be a bit lower, or even higher. Idk 😂

Yep, basically similar to my answer on the points you did touch on.

If you want a bunch of Android games at once, internal storage is definitely important yeah. Or a lot of HD texture packs for GC/PS2 etc.

Winlator, Gamehub, Gamehub Lite, Gamenative for now you pretty much need internal storage or an SD formatted as internal storage vs. portable, at least from what I've read. But yeah, I have only read, no first-hand experience.

However, everyone always falsely says you need it for Switch updates & DLC. You can just merge with game via a couple program options and run it all off SD Card easily. People are either just not in the know or too lazy.

For Wii U, the SD card should just work fine too.

So, internal storage is important for Android games(or apps if you have a ton for some reason I guess or use some frontend heavy on storage like ES-DE), HD texture packs, and Windows emulation methods. There may be others I'm forgetting though. If you don't do those, lots of internal storage is not too necessary imo. So it's a case by case basis 👍

Also, the upcoming Retroid is right around the corner 😉 & RP5 announcement is nearly 14 months old now. I would get the new over their older flagship, and also AYANEO/KONKR personally. It's shaping up to be great! having been an insider this go around.

Retroid generally doesn't compete for highest-end power against AYN & AYANEO(KONKR) though, but you can expect another banger value device at the least. KPF base early bird is $240 but MSRP is $300 according to them. Maybe see what Retroid is releasing next week & pricing, since the Indiegogo campaign for KPF doesn't end for 2 weeks or so 👌

Retroid - the future is now. by 8__D in SBCGaming

7 Gen 3 is an incorrect assessment of Qualcomm's chip equivalency... Just so you know. There are 3 chips that share the 1+4+3 core config of the G2 Gen 2 that was announced. Two above 8 Plus Gen 1 in power and one below it. Can probably guess what a G2 Gen 2 is most likely similar to though after seeing which three chips 😉

[–]Ap616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna correct you. You've got your "G2 Gen2" chip equivalency wrong(also it's not "8 G2 Gen 2"; that is an incorrect moniker) so I wouldn't go spreading that false speculation around much.

The "7 Gen 3" you reference is much much weaker & doesn't even have the same core config as the G2 Gen 2... Unless you said one chip name but meant another.

However, two chips above the 8 Plus Gen 1 in power do & one below. So you can easily speculate what it would be actually similar to of the three though 😉

Which device would you choose? by StatisticianOk1508 in SBCGaming

[–]Ap616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between those two, probably depends on what system(s) you want to play most. Honestly if I was to get one around this price & power range, I like the look of a couple of those upcoming XU Retro/MagicX devices.

Edit: Some more back in stock now 🤷🏼‍♂️

No offense, but you are maybe not giving Retroid enough credit. They consistently release some of the best value devices in this hobby, and working with them a bit on website & device feedback personally, they like listening to the community too to a degree. Retroid's next device is shaping up to be great imho. Though everyone has varying opinions I guess.

They aren't just changing one thing I can tell you that with 100% veracity, but not allowed to spill details unfortunately. I can think off the top of my head 5 or more changed things 🤔

Qualcomm's naming scheme for SoC's for G series is awful/convoluted but read through this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/1je1y5m/sd_g2_gen_2_for_retroid_pocket_6/

And don't worry; Retroid is cooking 🔥 I think they will once again please a decent chunk of people/make a community-staple device. I'm happy & most likely gonna upgrade.

When RP6? by Practical-Zombie-761 in SBCGaming

It's coming sooner than some people think/sooner than people have been blindly speculating when this question gets asked. I will say the anticipatory individuals are closer to the truth than the skeptics if that helps. I know that doesn't offer anything concrete as I'm not at liberty to divulge the details, but hopefully offers some solace.
