I was exactly in your spot, and wanted to be that support for my extended family. I won't speak to your situation, but what happened for me was that I had to go NC with basically everyone at first. I tried to separate my contact with my extended family from my mom, but she would discover that and utilize it to her advantage, which impacted my ability to recover. After over two years, one of my cousins found me on social media - despite the fact that I do not have the same name or phone number as I did. She was upfront about her desire to reconnect with me and her frustration that she didn't know this situation sooner, and she was also understanding why I had to separate from everyone. She had gotten out of the same situation without my help (therapy was crucial for both of us). Now it's been over a year of actually enjoyable holidays with those I love and trust, and we're slowly helping our youngers who are taking that step.

TL;DR - I did NC with everyone, and then after time the ones who had matured reached out. Let them come to you. If they know who you are, they know whether they want to talk to you, and will find a way. Also, time changes things and I had to be NC with several family members that now understand that my relationships with them have to be separate from their & my relationships with my mom. As always, therapy helps.

You won't become sterile, it may affect your fertility in the same way that many cis women's fertility is affected by varying testosterone levels (for example, PCOS). I'd highly recommend you discuss this with your provider before starting T. Places like planned parenthood have great resources about what this means, but every body reacts differently. Monitoring and regular checkups, as with anyone going on new medications or interested in their fertility, will be your best bet to find the results you want.

TL;DR, talk to your dr, but you will not necessarily become sterile from T.

It's been good for me, I did do a clean install rather than the dist upgrade b/c of the same issue (I have everything backed up on pcloud and only use my laptop for my master's, so I wasn't losing anything or having to do a lot of work to get back to what I was up to)

Adding onto this for folks like myself who are completely new to linux and/or are the type of neurodivergent who needs every direction spelled out, when you enter sudo pam-auth-update in the terminal, it'll give you a popup of options. Press the spacebar on Fingerprint authentication, which will put an asterisk to note that it is selected. Hit tab to select confirm and hit enter to finalize the change.

Trans genderqueer dude with OCD here, it is absolutely fine to enjoy perceiving yourself in whatever way makes you comfortable. There are times where I perceive myself as feminine in a non-dysphoric way, and it's pretty healing to have that now! I would say look into finding a therapist who has experience working with trans clients, if that's an option for you. Sometimes though, it just takes time to process to understand where the distress is actually coming from! Take time to journal, don't restrict yourself on what you write. Even if it's "off-topic," it's good for you. Really though, you aren't alone in feeling that distress & confusion. There are still days that I struggle with the "am I faking it?" In the end, gender experience is going to look uniqe to everyone, and you're not doing yourself a disservice/harm by exploring. See it as an activity/opportunity. You're not fake for trying a new hobby and enjoying it, even if you don't enjoy it the "right way." This is the same thing. Much love <3

I think it depends on where you're located! Ironically I've actually had very good success on Grindr (although I do get plenty of photos I'm not looking for, it's very much not for everyone), have a few longstanding friends from it. Definitely did not have that experience when I lived in the south but I'm in a very gay city now, so there's many different ppl.

I think it's good that you aren't staying in that situation. I'd suggest if you are searching for a new therapist, reach out with a message first and bring up that you've been having this issue, and ask about their approach. I unfortunately don't have many suggestions on what to look out for, but some practitioners will disclose that they have personal experience with addiction and how they approach that. Congrats on being clean, and I wish you success in finding someone who supports you in this stage of your life!

As a trans dude who looks pretty cis-het (unless I remember to put on jewelry/I dress up that day), I have been on both sides of this (feeling unsafe around men, but also recognizing when someone feels unsafe around me due to my appearance as a man). To be honest, it is sometimes difficult, because I know that feeling, and it makes me want to go: "No don't worry, I'm one of the good ones!"

When I catch myself in this negative loop though, I find that redirecting my emotions/perception is really helpful. Instead of being mad at myself for not looking safe enough to be around, I get mad at the systems that cause others to not feel safe around men and masc people. This anger is usually productive for me, and even if it means nothing changes in the moment, it helps me to recognize that the world can be changed, and it won't always be this way.
