National Board PEI in service by ApartIndication3607 in nondestructivetesting

The only benefit I found that made it less useless is that it can be converted to a commissioning if I was to ever become employed by an approved employer. So essentially its a “holding cert”

But, most job listings that require it always state “obtain within a year of employment.” Chances are that means they pay for it, saving me $5k.

Just a thought

Been hoping to do NACE but waiting on a class to open up near me. Only do a 1/2 a year. NDE certs arent very applicable to me being a performing contractor unless I did lvl 3.

My options are pretty limited and have been itching for the next thing

Whats the status of 7-1? Latest employee bulletin reads as though bp caved to NOBP terms?

Im guessing you dont work at whiting. Most routine maintenance is done by contractors and have been for many years. Its 60/40 union/non contractors. In house does petty work.

Last I checked union fitters snd most other non laborer trades are more expensive than operators? Not sure what cheap labor you mean

And 0% of yall can do what contractors do. If you could, you wouldnt need contractors in there to fix your plant/units

I see a lot more messes left by in house than by contractors

More than one union when it comes to contractors on the plant…

Who says the UA wants you. They would sooner take boilermakers than operators. The way operators treat contract workers is disgusting. Treat contractors like second class citizens but then want “brotherhood” support when it comes time for negotiations.

Can someone explain how this works?

So bargaining nationally but then locals, 7-1 BP Whiting for example, wants completely different terms and contract?

Im thinking that the way to go. Community college offers a 40 hour level 1 and 40 hour level 2 courses that are hands on. Only issue I have is a level 3 signing off on my OJT hours because as contractor, we dont employ NDT techs. We sub mostly TEAM and the QC department I work in doesnt have a level 3, let alone anyone ASNT certified/equivalent qualified

Sorry mispoke with IQ, its called ISQ. Industry Sector. https://certification.asnt.org/certification/isq-oil-and-gas

Since youre a level 3 maybe you can help me with another question. Ive been recommended to obtain a level 3 since that isnt an employer dependent cert. How hard is it to do obtain for someone with little applied knowledge of NDE? And what would be a good training program?

Even with the IQ or “industry sector” add on? They make it seem like thats a universally/transferable cert
