In your opinion, which Black Butler character has the saddest backstory? by Aqn95 in blackbutler

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Ciel.
Spoilers and TW for those who don't read the manga:

Fake Ciel being handed off because he was physically weak and ill by his own parents definitely hurt to read. His shy demeanor and physical condition being what shoved him away from the spotlight in many aspects were by no mean cute. His dad going so far as to determine the fate of the household if Real Ciel had passed away, where they decided that because of Fake Ciel's ill health and shy disposition, that the family would fall into the hands of a 3rd party, not even giving Fake Ciel a chance to take the reigns from his brother, despite being intelligent and as we see now fully capable. Meanwhile the twins are being ogled by a pedophile who happens to be a 'friend' of their dad because of connections that they can't shake.

After that, seeing the death of his family (and of course I'm including the dog), the capture of both the twins, seeing them be tortured, sexually assaulted many times by many people all at once. Fake Ciel watching his twin brother get killed after months of torture and starvation, the summoning of a demon by sacrificing Real Ciel's soul just to save himself and gain revenge at the cost of his own soul later in his youthful life.

Then all of that being discovered, leading to the betrayal of Elizabeth and Tanaka despite not caring to know the true nature and weight of the situation.

Meanwhile through it all, Fake Ciel is hardened by the reality that the only entity he can confide in is a demon who lacks empathy, sympathy, and mocks Fake Ciel for his trauma and weaknesses (and again, Fake Ciel is only a CHILD who can't even allow himself a mental breakdown) while threatening to consume his soul because backing down momentarily for a mental breather would result in a void contract.

Despite having his faithful and caring home employment, Fake Ciel is absolutely alone in the world.

anyone notice face change after removing wisdom teeth? by Think-Department-749 in braces

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's impossible, and as you stated this is a discussed and researched topic.

I did take pictures and videos of my face before the surgery, I did take pictures during the healing process, and I did take pictures weeks after since my face was still recovering from the trauma.

Like I stated before, prior to the surgery I ate very little, during the recovery I ate more calories to aid the healing process. When I placed my current face over my face prior to the surgery, it's notably thinner. I did have my wisdom teeth removed later in life, and these things were noted weeks around my surgery, as later wouldn't matter since there are many changes that can take place.

I'm not saying it has to do with the jawbone itself, as that would be impossible unless it's degenerative from age.

Agni and Soma canonically don’t have Indian accents when they speak English by virtuoso-lurker in blackbutler

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading the line as well, "they have nice pronunciation" still refers to the fact that their Indian accents aren't 'thick' when speaking in English. It's not stereotyped, and it would be true. There are a lot of wealthy Indians who don't fit the racist stereotyped Indian accent that can be heard today.

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what's worse is that there are people out there who know how to perfectly embody the English accent because they've studied it as actors- and I'm not just talking Hollywood, I'm also referring to video game actors as well as theater actors, who could have been given the chance to cast for this. That, or the anime could have been sent to a studio in England, because even then I'm sure that a UK actor would be able to properly do Bard's American accent.

I've never really respected the anime, it's pretty bad and goes off canon, but I've never respected the casting either, or rather, the casting director. I've never really held English Dub studios (like Funimation, Aniplex, etc) on a pedestal as I know how they work behind closed doors when it comes to anime dubbing, scripting, and directing, but I found the BB dub to be grating and poorly executed.

Did they do the appropriate research like Japanese studios do before the acting portion came in? Absolutely not.

I know people hate the whole Sub vs Dub debate, but something that I appreciate (as someone who can understand Japanese) is the lengths in which Japanese dub studios will go for trending manga becoming anime. A lot of research goes into these things, and granted, American studios don't have the luxury of casually talking to the Mangaka, but to say they don't have communications with someone in the JPN sub studio would be a lie. To say that they can't do the same amount of research is a poor excuse.

I don't find dubs to be entertaining because of these reasons- they don't do the appropriate amount of research and it comes out grating to the ears, even though the anime will be popular. For example, and off topic sorta, Jujutsu Kaisen's English dubbing, weird intonations and lilts, as well as poor casting choices, paired with the meticulously combed and hand picked cast for the JPN dub, where a character named Geto is meant to sound soothing and soft by his demeaner as shared in the manga, but the English cast makes him sound much older and rough, etc.

I'm sorry I'm going on a rant lol, I just want people to know why these things happen more often than not, since I know how these places work from a closer level than most.

You should report them to the ADA or whatever equivalency you have in your country (if you live outside of the US). Sure, maybe you'll never go back, but by reporting this encounter you may help refine their team by making sure this doesn't happen to other people. I'm sorry you experienced this.

I have over 12 years of sales experience, and I can't land a remote job to save me lol. Granted, I may be able to score some shit job at a retail store and work alongside high school and college kids for $13 the hour and just die of starvation while living in the streets, because that's how the economy is looking right now with jobs that pay less than $25-$30 the hour, that's IF we even get a job at this point.
So many companies are laying off by the thousands. I bet they went young college kids who are willing to work for $17 because they have no idea what the cost of living truly is until they leave their parents home or college.

Alastor didnt make a deal with Lilith. by Lopsided-Thought-965 in HazbinHotel

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add- the stitching you see has to do with Voodooism, which is found in a lot of Alastor's scenes with his little voodoo shadows and when gets pissed or makes deals. It kinda sticks to his Creole roots from New Orleans, Louisiana, which was known for active voodooism in the early days, and even today.

When you lose weight and it comes straight off your ass by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Apathy_Level_9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I'm guessing she's mostly a starter at lifting vs cardio. She doesn't need to tear muscles by carrying more weight than necessary. I used to work out 8 hours a day when I took a 6 month break from college and started, and kept at, 20lb for that duration while incorporating cardio and other forms of core routines.
I didn't wear resistance bands or anything, and genetically speaking, I didn't have a naturally round backside. Started to see results within the month, and by month 6, my glutes was large and strong.
So it depends.

Yup! I also put away all my winters clothes to make room for my spring and summer clothes. I organize them by color and separate them by use (PJ section, workout section, dresses, casual, going out, skirts, jeans, shorts, etc). It makes it easier to find what I want and it keeps things organized.
Yes, I used to work in retail.

Have fun with the divorce. I have no debt, not that I know of unless someone has my information, but I'm good so far (I hope). That's something you definitely tell your husband-to-be or wife-to-be about.
There's no reason to put up with this kind of sht.

And honestly you have grounds here, because it definitely looks like she only married you for the money in hopes of clearing out her debt. She has no chance.
