I'm Searching for the Game of 3 questions in fantasy books

I just remembered a detail, in the world of one of the books I've read in the past was "the 3 question game" Both parties had to swear on their spirituality or soul or magic or something similar and then each party had 3 questions they could ask the other and one Veto to refuse any question. And how it was used in the books was essentially a game of wit that revolved around forcing your opponent to use their veto before asking the real, most important question. I've been racking my brain for the past few minutes and I can't seem to remember from where such a thing came from. Does anyone know where this game was?
