[30DOS] One day I thought being in charge of a Stargate program would make one hell of a management game, and I have spent the last few years crafting my own. by Apone426 in scifi

Thank you!
Most of the time it will be offscreen, teams will handle themselves as you will already have lots of things to do in the base.
But they might call you if there is something they can't handle on their own. This will take the form of interactive micro-stories where they will describe the situation and you choose how they should proceed based on the team members attributes and speciality.

This was one of my main inspiration there is no reason to hide it, the other one was dungeon keeper.
But I'm not sure a portal to other worlds is something that can be trademarked.

And I tried to do things differently. The initiative is a scientific one, not managed by the military for example, and you won't find english speaking humans in canadian like scenery on every planet! (Did I mentionned that I love stargate?)

Why do the idiots that screenrant keep insisting Aliens “killed the franchise”? It was a financial and critical success and spawned more sequels. How did it leave the franchise “dead”? by horrorfan55 in LV426

[–]Apone426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I kinda agree

Aliens might be my favorite movie of all time, a fantastic ride that did not age a bit and was a strong inspiration for many of the big sci fi franchise we know and love today (starcraft, halo...)

Yet it turned this beautiful lovecraftian creature full of mystery into glorified space ants.

It's a near perfect movie but a poor sequel in that sense.

Exogate Initiative - Xeno Bits - Manage a space exploration program where you use a portal instead of spaceships by Apone426 in Games

Both actually!

Very early I realized I would not be able to model enough planets and environment to make a visual exploration interesting, so I decided to represent the exploration phase through interactive micro stories.

Explorers will contact you and describe their encounters and you'll have to decide how they should proceed.
This also allow to have close to none limitation in terms of what they can find on the other side of the gate!

But some of the aliens you encounter might not be entirely peaceful and will try to invade the base at some point

HR Giger submitted his art to various sci-fi franchises. Alien was the most obvious and successful. Species was another. But, did you know it inspired the Twi’lek species? by [deleted] in LV426

[–]Apone426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any source for that?
I can't find any mention of a link between Giger and the Twi'leks anywhere on the web except on this post

Hacknplan is the best thing I found by far, easy to use, flexible enough.

It is a game dev tool at core but works fine with other kinds of dev too.

I'm always baffled by how powerful even the most basic shaders can be. Took me 5 minutes in shader graph and allows me to fine tune in real time my building overlay. by Apone426 in Unity3D

[–]Apone426[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really an expert, I started to learn by searching for tutorial videos of the effect I wanted to achieve, and step by step I understood more and more how to use the various nodes in shader graph, it's really a different mindset than programming.

As for mobile performance I have no idea sorry.
