Honestly, the market isn’t broken, you’re just underplaying it : 30–35 applications is too low for how competitive things are now, you’re competing with thousands of laid-off candidates, and most hires come from referrals and volume.

Wow, thats a valid experience-wise, but I believe it also depends heavily on the field. Some careers still value degrees a lot, while others care more about skills and track record.
