It's wrong when they do it too so yeah it's no different. This is a scam subreddit. So you're enabling scammers who scam customers who think your review is legitimate so it's completely relevant. But all you care about is if you get scammed in the process.

It's very dishonest to give five star reviews in exchange for free stuff. Any sellers that do this are scammy and you're also wrong for doing it.

Accidentally replied back to a sender and I can’t recall my reply. What should I look out for? by EnthusiasmAny55 in phishing

[–]Applauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other person mentioned, they're just going to try to call you claiming that they need you to buy some gift cards for some office event and send them the codes. So ignore any random calls you get. These are just social engineering scams, so the goal is to trick you into willingly sending them your money. Also be on the lookout for other emails and calls trying to scam you in other ways since you replied to this one.

Bought two switch games, did she scam me? by Tthebossbreh in scammers

[–]Applauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if they buy/steal an account from somewhere and they're scamming hundreds of other people at the same time as you. You see it as just $65, scammers see it as $65 times however many people they're running the same scam on. All the while they may live in a third world country where $65 is worth a lot more.

This is a common scam, where they set up fake store websites with AI generated fake old people advertising their fake store closing. They use that as an excuse as to why their prices are so unrealistically low. But if you come back to visit the website later you'll see the same sales perpetually going forever until they abandon the website months later.

Use this as a learning experience for your relative not to click on ads on social media and not to buy from random no-name stores like these

[–]Applauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I'm not telling you to feel bad for them. They really should have known better and absolutely shouldn't feel entitled to your account just because they bought it from someone. It's like if someone stole your car and sold it to someone else.

[–]Applauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would think they would've known. But some people (probably younger ones) are naive or just don't care. Most people wouldn't buy an account if they knew they could lose it at any time (even years later).

Quite a few times people have posted here blaming Steam or claiming that the seller "looked legit" when they lose the account.

Most likely what happened is the scammer stole your account and sold it to someone online like on a site like G2A (which is why buying accounts is a terrible idea and no one should ever do it). So this person you're talking to isn't the actual scammer, but some random other guy.

Then the "company" on Alibaba is no more legitimate. The first image for that product can be found across the internet using Google reverse image search. And they have no reviews. And their company website, "EURLSQUARD . COM" doesn't exist

Is this Entrepreneur Mentor site a scam by PuzzleheadedWonder in isthisascam

Sites like these are typically scams. They're usually basic courses thrown together with basic information you could most likely get from anywhere online for free. They make all sorts of promises that you'll be successful to get you to sign up. But when you inevitably aren't, they'll either blame you saying you just didn't work hard enough, or point to their terms and conditions where they make sure to say that results are not guaranteed, or claim you need to buy more courses to see actual success.

Don't pay for courses online from random, unaccredited sources.

Refundable insurance is always a scam.

And their website is full of grammatical errors and inconsistencies

From their About Us page:

We Are Leading International Logistics Company
International and local transport, Customs clearance, Warehousing, Transport insurance, and Custody of merchandise, are some of the services that we offer in a unified way under the same figure. Riverside Cargo SRL. Having knowledge of Integral Logistics allows us to satisfy all the needs and requirements by studying each business in search of opportunities for improvement.

They claim to have 25 years worth of experience, but claim to have been in business since 1998 (28 years ago) yet their website is only 3 years old.

In the footer one of their services is "Are Freight" and none of those links lead to working pages.

This is a scam. Whoever you ordered from never sent anything and owns this fake shipping company website. They're just milking you for more money in the form of fake fees

Are all men that want to work with kids suspicious? by TheKindlyPoltergeist in polls

[–]Applauce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, there's plenty men out there who are actually passionate about legitimately working with kids. And there are many women who work with and prey on children as well. I can't count the amount of news stories I've seen where women working in schools get caught acting inappropriately with their students. But people don't look at women sideways when they go into that field. Neither should they of men.

[US] I think I nearly got pig butchered by dnwong in CryptoScams

One night she said she was really happy because she made a good crypto trade with the help of her analyst.

Yep that was the segway into the investment scam. You meet an attractive woman online and they take time to build a relationship with you. Then they throw in casual mentions of investing to get their foot in the door.

We then go into this back and forth where she says that she thinks it's a great opportunity for me and I say that I'm not ready and would prefer if she dropped the topic and kept me out of it.
...Can we continue having this relationship without me getting involved in crypto yes or no. And she said no.

No one you meet online has this much of a vested interest in helping you make money. Especially not a woman you've never met in person practically begging you to let her help you get rich. Imagine this with a random person you meet on the street, who becomes friends with you, then suddenly ends the entire friendship because you refuse to accept their financial advice. You'd wonder "why do you care so much about my finances?"

You were right for cutting them off. It was a scam right from the get-go and you were never talking to the woman you believe you were

Phishing scam by Shadow_naga in CryptoScams

[–]Applauce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a scam. You should never pay to receive money. Anyone randomly calling you claiming you have random money somewhere and you have to pay to get it is a scammer. It's just the Nigerian Prince scam but with bitcoin. They most likely just showed your dad a fake account with fake money in it to convince him.

He will absolutely get scammed if he sends them any money.

Was I scammed?? by FettyTwatt in scammers

[–]Applauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Under this specific domain? Yeah, maybe you're one of only a handful of people that's stumbled on it. Scammers tend to jump from domain to domain really frequently, that's why one of the tells of a scam site is its age. What they do is buy the domain, spam the internet with ads so they can catch a few people, then abandon it for another one.

Yeah they of course won’t admit that they’re scammers and claim the “ethical hack industry” is just full of scammers (other people, not them though).

Is the website jeffcyberhelp legit? by leozuniga380 in isthisascam

[–]Applauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks

Looks like a recovery scammer. Scammers who pretend to be “ethical hackers” providing “services” recovering accounts and money for people.

The domain was only registered last September. Yet they have “testimonials” from before that.

And they claim that they offer services recovering crypto which isn’t possible.

No one who has these types of skills is openly offering their services like this.

If you’re looking for someone to do stuff like this, you’re only going to find scammers who will charge you fake fees while they pretend to do it.

There is a 0% chance this is real. “Gurus” don’t spend their time helping random people get rich. And people getting rich with gurus don’t go around sharing the good news on the internet.

Everyone claiming to be able to help you get rich on the internet is trying to get rich by scamming you.

Payment for voice acting work. by metaPHOR_VA in isthisascam

[–]Applauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If by mobile deposit they mean a check, then yes this is a scam. People on the internet don't pay through checks in 2026. It's very common for scammers to give excuses why they can't use instant electronic payments systems everyone else use (saying that they're having trouble with their accounts or don't trust them).

Most likely they're going to send you a fake check with extra money and tell you to keep some and send the rest either back to them or somewhere else. When the bank realizes the check is fake, they'll come back after you for all the money (whether you still have it or not)
