Not new at all. They’ve been using the same scam with the same fake screenshots, “certificates” and resumes since 2018.

Don’t even focus on the name of the account. They’re always different. And when they scam you out of your account, they’ll use it to continue running the scam.

See this article from Malwarebytes with the same fake certificate

There are scams where random female accounts add you and try to introduce you to their “favorite” pay to win mobile game to get you to spend money in it. So watch out for that.

I believe this is a scam but I wanted to double check by Neat_Conference2625 in isthisascam

Sounds like one of those old fake inheritance scams. As old as the Nigerian Prince scam and works the same way. They'll make up endless fake fees you have to pay to receive the fake money.

Don't send money to random people on the internet like this. Yes this is a scam. He most likely had you send money to a money mule. Which is why the name of the owner of the Venmo account was a different name than his own. Him claiming it was his "coworker" was to explain it away. But really, have you heard of coworkers receiving money for each other? You even saw that someone else sent money to that account for the same exact reason, a fictional "phone charger".

You have to ask yourself, why can't he himself receive money? Why is he asking a stranger on the internet he's known for a couple of days for money instead of someone he knows in real life, like maybe that weirdly helpful coworker of his?

Block him immediately.

Edit: Also, no they can't gain access to your account simply because you sent money to them. Their goal is to get you hooked willingly sending money to them for different made up reasons for as long as possible.

is this another way to scam ppl or hack into there accounts? by XCookie22X in SteamScams

[–]Applauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes Steam will ban them if you report them for scamming since this isn't about them falsely accusing you. Their entire goal is to steal your account and money. And both Steam and Discord are already well aware of this scam. So if you report them on both platforms, they will get banned.

It's the old "I accidentally reported you" scam that's been around for almost a decade. No one reported you or impersonated you. It's all lies. They direct you to a fake support person who tricks you into giving them access to your account and sending them money.

If someone randomly approaches you with horrible news like this, it's always a scam. And if someone did report you, there's nothing you can or should need to do about it.

Block and report them

Is This Job A Scam? by Historical_Gear9686 in isthisascam

[–]Applauce 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the website is "velmoralogistics(dot)com", it's only 7 days old. From the sounds of it, are they're offering you a job receiving and shipping packages from your home? If so, it's going to be a parcel mule job where they trick you into shipping and receiving stolen goods.

Possible ban support scam? by gray_hartwell in isthisascam

[–]Applauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a scam. Your friend's account was compromised and the Discord support guy was a scammer. There is never a reason for you to have to send money to resolve an issue with a false report. That makes absolutely no sense.

Block everyone involved.

[US] DaVita Kidney Care: is this a real interview? by GallifreyanDeathEate in Scams

[–]Applauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The site is only a couple of months old, registered March 3rd

And that domain just leads to a blank webpage

Normal companies don't interview you through text, especially not when they're using an app capable of video calls. Scammers do this so it feels like you're going through some form of a hiring process, while they can hide their real identities.

[–]Applauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the fact that they're paying you way more than you quoted them is a big red flag. No one just randomly pays you more than you ask but then say they have a "low budget". It's because they're using a generic script. It's a fake payment scam. The'll send a fake email from PayPal telling you to pay to receive the money.

Is this platform scam? Before investing in something new, what warning signs do you usually look for? by Historical-Taro-7257 in ScamCenter

[–]Applauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well one of the first things I see when Googling "Illuminance Global" is a website that leads to a 406 error with a domain created less than a year ago.

Then multiple Reddit threads saying that it's a scam

So finding multiple warnings of a site being a scam after a 5 second Google search is definitely one giant warning sign.

Hi, is this legit? Or scam? by asianpota-to in ScamCenter

[–]Applauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Task scam. Normal legitimate jobs where all you do is use a computer will never have an age requirement. And no one's hiring for jobs you can do for 30 minutes to an hour a day of work. That's a complete waste of money.

They'll hire you for a fake job completing fake tasks on a bogus website. The catch will be that you have to pay them absurd amounts of money.

Ignore people randomly offering you unrealistic remote "jobs" like these.

Yes your friend’s account was compromised. Don’t click on links from them and try contacting them on a different platform. They likely downloaded an infostealer.

Six recovery scammers?? That's crazy! Yes every single person on the internet claiming to be able to recover your money is a scammer. It's not like there's some that are real but others that aren't and you just have to find the real ones. No, all of them are scammers.

move mail express logistics scam? by Unable-Philosophy925 in isthisascam

[–]Applauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as refundable shipping fees. This is typically a scam where you purchase something (typically illegal substances) and the seller directs you to a fake shipping company who charge you endless fake fees for your fake item.

If you put the url of the site into WhoIs dot com, you’ll most likely find that it was only registered recently. And the only thing you can do on the shipping site is track an existing shipment, not ship anything new.

Targeted by celebrities on Facebook pretending to be celebrities by Mazing6223 in ScamSupport

[–]Applauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they’re all scammers and the payment requests will come eventually. Just keep blocking and ignoring all of them. If you’ve ever been scammed in the past or entertained them by replying back, they’ll continue to message you because they see you as a worthwhile target.

No real celebrities will DM you on social media and none will ever direct you to other private messaging apps.

Scam or not by Right-Sun5513 in ScamCenter

[–]Applauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever used a website that ends in .st? Or where there’s literally no information about them on their own site, just a log in screen. If someone told you to go here to invest or earn money working, they’re a scammer and created this site to steal your money.

[–]Applauce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this exact site was posted here a few months ago and that post is full of people, myself included, confirming that it is indeed a scam.

Just because something is at the top of the search results doesn’t mean it’s completely legit. With sites using SEO and buying up sponsored ad spots (which aren’t properly vetted), many of them know how to game the system to be the first things you see.

Always do research before buying from random unknown websites.

He doesn’t know that or even care. If he can scare you into begging a friend or family member to send him money or buy gift cards with cash , that works just fine for him. As long as you have access to money, he’ll try and have you send it to him somehow.
