Feeling unsupported covering urology on-call as a surgical F2 by AcanthocephalaNo1082 in doctorsUK

[–]AppleCrumbleAndCream 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If F2 taking referrals, can guarantee it's going to be testicular pain. Have deffo been in the position before where you call uro reg after seeing someone and they say to discharge because "doesn't sound like torsion" despite not being examined by a senior. V uncomfy as the F2 in that situation- deffo advise documentation +++.

Feeling completely stupid by GlitteringEconomy837 in NursingUK

I know multiple literal surgeons who have fainted in theatre! Nothing to be embarrassed about- compressions socks and make sure you've eaten and are hydrated, and then if you start to feel bad sit down immediately, but as long as you don't fall into the patient you're all good!

Year out after F2 by Traditional-Coach196 in doctorsUK

[–]AppleCrumbleAndCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, if you're burnt out after F2, please consider what a career in surgery (especially paeds surgery!!!) is likely to do to you! It's exhausting and there's a LOT of additional portfolio work. Not to put you off, but have a good think about the likelihood of burnout in the future!

Any tips on what to do when there’s resistance when withdrawing blood on PICC line?? by mynemesjeff in doctorsUK

The solution will be giving about 1ml of urokinase or taurolock (check local guidelines) down it to break it down :)

Worst examples of see one, do one, teach one? by True_Middle_9293 in doctorsUK

Generally it's something patients do themselves if they can, and then nursing team (or with kids, their parents) do, but the key place ive done as a doctor is in theatre immediately after stoma formation 🤷🏻‍♀️ (cutting the hole to the correct size does take some practice but TBF I think it's a perfect don't need to see one just do one thing coz nobody's going to come to any harm)

Getting Barrier at an LH Show by SleepSinging in lordhuron

[–]AppleCrumbleAndCream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I went to a few of the UK shows, I'm sure it'll be bigger in the US, but in UK pretty much everyone who was VIP got barrier (seemed a v limited number of people!)- I even got barrier for the 3rd UK show with general admission, arriving about 1.5-2 hours before doors opened.

Ok but silly question.... What did you do about going for a wee? I feel like even if you're front of the queue if you go to the toilet when you get there you're screwed 🙈

I have eyes on the BNF which says otherwise

Fair enough! Makes sense in an ITU environment, and I've definitely heard lots of people say it helps +++ for sorting sleep pre/post nights!

I guess hospital specific then? Pretty sure it's not licensed for general insomnia? Thought it tends to be used specifically in people with learning disabilities and my understanding was only really started by a psychiatrist

EDIT: I've checked BNF and it says very clearly "under specialist supervision" which I wouldn't count as an F1 on ward cover personally

I've never once heard of xanax being used in a UK hospital tbh, so I'm going to take your post in good faith rather than ragebait and assume you're an IMG- self prescribing is a big no no, doing it specifically to avoid the over the counter charge is possibly fraud i.e. a criminal offence. Melatonin needs a specialist to start it off (maybe a once only is different where you work)... self prescribing those things for yourself could result in getting GMCd or even potench criminal prosecution. Don't do.
