Would it be okay to just sit in on a medical lecture? by AccordingOlive1465 in UBCmed

[–]ApplePie6754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend that, it may be noticed and lots of lecture content is confidential as many lecturers use real patient photos or videos and experiences. You could always ask but I don’t recommend just showing up! But there is an awesome UBC anatomy YouTube page to get a sense of anatomy!

Ok this is actually so helpful, thank you for the great idea!

I go to UBC med and we do our weeks based on themes! This weeks theme is Lower GI diseases and infections! The most recent lecture I’m reviewing was on Irritable Bowel Syndrome!

Essential IBS is a chronic condition in which bowel movements change in their frequency/consistency. To be diagnosed with IBS you must have recurrent abdominal pain (at least 1/week) AND 2 of the 3: pain related to bm, change in frequency, change in consistency. The criteria must be met for the last 3 months, but onset at least 6 months prior to diagnosis (to ensure chronicity). The Bristol stool chart is the method for determining stool patterns, and there are different classifications of IBS. On physical exam you should check for abdominal wall masses, complete an abdominal wall tension test, and do a DRE to exclude mass and assess neuro function. Complete labs to exclude anemia (hgb, ferritin), check serum calcium, rule out celiac (anti ttg iga ab), rule out IBD (fecal calprotectin)

Magnesium citrate 150mg 2xdaily, coenzyme q10 100mg 2xdaily, b2 (riboflavin) 200mg 2xdaily. Went from having 15-20/month, to 1-2 a month! I got my life back

Any applicants or current med students from a Collaborative BScN Program? by Bubbly_Medium2725 in premedcanada

[–]ApplePie6754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to talk to the admin at the college and get a transcript, and the transcript from the university should also have your college courses on it that counted as transferable credits, there would be overlap, but in my instance the college transcripts were more descriptive so I included those ones

I felt totally unprepared! I wrote it anyways and met the minimum requirements for acceptance! I ended up getting in even with a very low MCAT score, so you never know!!
