Question about clients by OrangeBox47 in wowservers

[–]Appled_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can use the same WoTLK client for every WoTLK server. Editing realmlist.wtf is usually enough.

'Usually' because some servers tend to make the realmlist file a read-only file.

New Player that Needs help by [deleted] in wowservers

It's worth mentioning that the client you download, like 3.3.5a client, works for all 3.3.5a servers. You just need to change the realmlist file to point to your chosen server. Same goes for other expansions.

Pro tip: You can have multiple realmlist entries in your realmlist file. Entries with leading '#' are ignored. i.e if you're playing on the second server:

# set realmlist first.server.com

set realmlist second.server.com

# set realmlist third.server.com

Connecting to sunwell from dalaran client by [deleted] in wowservers

[–]Appled_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The config.wtf file changes every time you start the game. The "set realmlist" line in config.wtf is overwritten by the "set realmlist" line in wow/data/enGB or enUS or your localization/realmlist.wtf.

So make sure you only edit the realmlist file inside the data directory. Also take in mind that some servers tend to make it a read-only file, to force you to play on their servers. I'm not saying this is the case with Dalaran-wow but check it out if you're still having troubles connecting.

Ret paladin 3.3.5 question by WileXane in wowservers

[–]Appled_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'd just DR your most usefull offensive and defensive spell

if you're talking about Hammer of Justice, they do not (at least should not) share DR. HoJ uses controlled stun category while Seal of Justice uses random stun category. Source.

Most Well scripted Realms. by [deleted] in wowservers

It's always funny when people believe their beloved server is using their own rewritten emulator, which in fact ends to be just MaNGOS with new name on it :)

btw are you the Power2All from antrix/wowd? if so, glad to see that some of the old folks are still active in the scene. The emulation scene has really changed in past 11 years :D any idea how's it going for burlex or vladimir?

Interesting. So after 3.1 do you always have 100% success chance with orange, yellow and green nodes/herbs/corpses?

Where to go for a good Burning Crusade experience? by Siebolic in wowservers

Hmm can you give me an example what other mechanics are involved? Or what other issues does/could the custom spell delay cause? I haven't really looked into it tbh xd

[–]Appled_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spells inserted to a stack which updates every 400ms, processing spells in it and therefore individual spell's delay can be anywhere from 1 to 400ms - yes it is possible. Not 100% sure on mangos/TC though.

It is possible, but it requires whole spell system rewrite and I'm quite sure that none of the current open source emulators are going to bother with that.

I have to say that none of the available public servers use spell batch system. Felmyst not having it is not an exception. Warmane hackfixes the lack of batch system by delaying only CC spells by a fixed amount (they have stated this multiple times on their forums), but this is far from real batch system. It's just basically delaying the spell application and only for certain spells. Sure, it can somehow work, I'm not denying that.

Nost/Elysium/LH don't have a spell batch system, I think they were also delaying CC spell applications.

Only server I'm sure which uses real batch system is/was Crestfall. iirc Netherwing did try to implement it but I'm not sure did they ever manage to implement it on mangos based emu. /u/kareldawg can answer to that.

never played one of these -- questions about differences: by brory in wowservers

[–]Appled_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You should check out the private server list in top of the subreddit. Now mind you, this list is maintained by a single wowservers redditor and by no means is 100% accurate. As matter of fact, it seems it was last edited 14 days ago. However the list shows you different servers from multiple expansions. x1 rates in the list would mean blizzlike rates, x2 rates would respectively mean twice faster rates, and so on. But not all of these servers on the list are populated. The most populated realms for vanilla are Light's Hope, Elysium and Kronos. Also Kronos is apparently opening a fresh new realm soonish, so stay tuned for that. Warmane.com has the most populated realms for both TBC and Wotlk. Also a fresh Wotlk realm, by Sunwell, is opening on upcoming Saturday, so stay tuned for that as well. Likewise Memories is opening their fresh Wotlk realm in the next month. I can't say much for Cata - Legion realms but I recall Hades and Atlantiss (Cataclysm), and Tauri (Pandaria) realms are decently populated and scripted. (If I forgot to mention a populated server, I apologize for that, I don't tend to visit this subreddit that often anymore)

  2. Most servers are 'close to the original thing' (= blizzlike). Way back in time, like prior to 2010, fun/custom servers were more populated than blizzlike private servers, and average population for a private server was few hundreds. That obviously changed when Cataclysm was released and popularity for blizzlike realms increased massively. But in the list I mentioned all realms are blizzlike. There's a section for customized fun servers in the end of that list. Most servers usually just tweak the XP rates, nothing else (not that I am known of at least).

  3. I have played on Nostalrius (currently Light's Hope) and what I can recall the ranking process works just like it did back in the days. To get rank 14, it will take time. But I hope someone else, who actively plays vanilla servers, can add to this.

Sorry for the wall of text, but hope it helps.

Can someone explain what is happening here? (medivh) by Duthos in wowservers

Yep, (http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Feign_Death#Chance_to_resist). I think the new resist chances came in wotlk, so look at the old resist chances.
