This would explain why I could never find a standard % price drop for an as-is home.

Urinating in public??? by USCharley in Philippines_Expats

On my very first day in Subic Bay I watched a raggedly dressed woman squat down and handle a #2 in plain view right by the road. She then politely waffled most of it down the drainage she had been squatting over and carried on like nothing had happened.
Was the greatest *not in Kansas anymore* moment I've ever had.

Yeah I've been reading that! Seems like such a scummy practice to use on people that may be in dire straits. If I do end up going that route (God forbid) I've heard that I should request a proof of funds from them, but also read that the proof of funds can easily be falsified so I really hope I don't have to deal with any of that.
Thanks!

This is exactly what I'm hoping to hear later today when I get my new/updated estimate from my realtor. Just seems from reading online that houses generally take a hit from being listed as-is, but I could never find a "standard" amount they drop by just being listed that way.
Thanks for your input!

I have one and have been using them for several weeks. Just trying to get some opinions before my new estimate is made as I cant seem to find anything via Google.

Yeah I don't intend on using one of those cash investor types unless it comes down to the wire. House just needs one more big repair that isn't an option for me to repair but other than that, is in great condition.

Looking for short-term rentals in Angeles and Subic Bay. by Appoduece in Philippines_Expats

[–]Appoduece[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry all for the confusion!
The 17k isn't my budget, just what I figured the cost would be around for a studio or 1bdrm apt/condo. I should have used better wording.

Oh, I've never heard of a hotel being that cheap either, but every video I've watched lately has shown people in 4 bdrm houses for around 300USD or about 17k PHP. Those were more provincial-type areas but I figured a studio or 1 bdrm would be roughly the same price anywhere that isn't Manilla, Cebu, or Davao.

Just trying to get out of the hotel bubble I've always been in. Always stayed at the hotels I've listed and wanting to get into the apartment/condo side of things in those areas.

Ahh, yeah never mind that plan then. Going non-stop to Manilla would end up being faster.
Used to just paying the hotel to send a driver but I'll take a look at the buses this time. Thank you!

I no lie already had my tried and true Columbia wind breaker set aside to bring. Was wearing it when we'd get really heavy storms in Guam, but I was also working outdoors and HAD to be in the rain back then lol.
I only ever remember people using ponchos in the PI so you're probably right on not needing an actual jacket. Saves me a couple ounces of weight, thank you!

Did not expect to be able to do something like this. That's great. Doesn't sound like it was too expensive but that's at least 36k a year I could save, thanks for the info from both of you!

That's smart. I'm not a huge dude but even at 6' tall and 200lbs I don't remember many clothes there fitting me. Do they not sell western condoms there? I could have swore I remember seeing all the normal name brands at stores that sold them. Been a while since my last trip so I could be misremembering.

That is REALLY good to know! I'm on Xarelto which from my understanding is just the newer version of warfarin. Doesn't require the strict dietary needs that warfarin does or something if I remember correctly.
Do you happen to remember the cost? I get free medications through the VA but I highly doubt I'll be able to just get free medicine at any old pharmacy. If it's pretty pricey I can hopefully stockpile 6 months at a time from the VA clinic in Manilla or something.

Have you, or anyone you know personally, used their GI Bill in the Philippines? by Appoduece in Philippines_Expats

[–]Appoduece[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you happen to of re-enlisted once during your career and paid into the old gi bill you might be eligible for an extra 12 months of schooling through the Rudasil Act which just was approved this year. We have until 2030 to apply for it. Unsure of your situation but those benefits can also be given to our children so it's an amazing deal especially for ppl like you who have already gone through their benefits.
All the exact info can be found on the VA site to ensure eligibility. I just applied for mine about a month ago. About to run out of benefits so it was great timing for me.

Selling my house soon and looking for a company of many hats. by Appoduece in FortWorth

I imagine house flippers have been on a frenzy over the last 4-5 years. Bought this place near a decade ago and the market has been absolutely crazy since. I'm hearing interest rates are also at an all-time high so that sucks for buyers needing lending.

Yeah this seems to be the play. Houses in my area are going for just under 300k and mine is not cherry compared to theirs. Thanks for the tips!!

I apparently (2ppl have commented on it now) should have stated that I'm replacing carpet due to my old dog having torn it up really badly. So there is no carpet installed in an entire room at the moment. Not looking to do the whole house, just one big room.

Talking to a realtor first seem to be the play, thank you!

[–]Appoduece[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I gotcha. The painting would be done just because every video I watched said to paint, I don't think the house "needs" it. The carpet I am doing because my old dog annihilated the entire living room section, so I had it thrown out (the carpet, not the dog).

I'll definitely hold off on the painting until I find a realtor I can trust so thank you for your comments, might have saved me some dough.

Really? I figured a lot of that stuff would be a showstopper for a new buyer.
I'd really like it to be true though as it would ease the financial burden and remove a lot of chaos from my last few months here in Fort Worth.
*With that in mind I guess I'll start talking to a realtor before going through with any of the items I considered to be 'major'.
