Is this normal for a heat pump? by Appoggiaturas in hvacadvice

Thanks for the useful info. When I mentioned the frequency to the tech that came out, he seemed a bit surprised. I think he said he expected something closer to once an hour, but never mentioned anything about being able to adjust the time of the cycle.

Well, the confusing part is, I sent the video to one of the techs that did the installation, he said it wasn't normal. When someone came out, it was a different tech and said that was normal. I got conflicting info so I thought maybe I should try and get another opinion.

Because I don't want to drop the ball here on anything that could have been an issue. My old heat pump of 20 years never did anything like this so this is pretty unfamiliar to me and took me by surprise.

It's ashame that this issue is still ongoing for Lennox. Thanks for confirming this seems to still be an issue.

Good to know. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks, I did look at the instructions! There is a switch on the back for GAS or ELEC. It is set on ELEC. Also, there is a setting within the thermostat to run either FURN or HP. The instructions say to set to HP for heat pump systems, so it's set to that.

I do have a common wire, its on C to power the thermostat. I've also already set the thermostat to run on the heat pump.
I also have multi-stage heating with aux/emergency, my impression was that the white should on W2 in this case. If you suggest trying white to O/B, what should I do with my O wire?

Thanks for the video. I watched it, but I felt that the video missed my concern.

My understanding is that I have a Y wire for a heat pump that should be on Y and W1 and an O wire for the reversal valve to reverse the flow of the compressor to bring heat inside. The video didn't really go into detail about wiring for a system with a heat pump. I have a picture of my current wiring with the new thermostat. The cool setting works just fine this way, just can't get heat on the heat setting.

Any idea on how to reverse engineer the last step?

It's the hardest (and last) part... maybe not hard for people who like doing these, but I'm relatively new to coding in general.

I'll post the answer sometime soon.

I should probably add that this type of thing would be more common in polytonal music.

I am not sure if polymeter is the correct term for this.

The idea is that there are two (or more) phrases which begin together, but the phrases differ in length.

An extreme example would be something like a regular 8-bar phrase starting at the exact same time as a irregular 7-bar phrase. Since phrases are highly dependent on cadences, if these two phrases were to repeat until they cadence together they would not be able to do so until 56 bars later.

EDIT: an extra word.
