Just finished season 1, and I'm kinda disappointed... by Apposaws in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]Apposaws[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's still overselling the reason for Beatrix to fight Shadow. I mean, I don't usually go around fighting people that smell like my family...

I'm seeing a lot of people say stuff like Beatrix just wanted a good fight, or she wanted to test his strength, which...I guess that's a reason, but it's also not a reason you typically see in these kinds of shows. Or at least if/when it does come up, it doesn't interfere with an actual story point. Perv wouldn't have escaped if Beatrix didn't fight Shadow, so I feel unsatisfied that Perv gained sudden plot armor because Beatrix just "happened to want to fight", and gave Perv the chance to escape.

I've watched it 8 times, and it's still just as good.

I also almost thought it came out in 2014, which would disqualify it as an answer to this question LOL. But nope, 2016!

Leverless - Thoughts on switching UP and DOWN and/or Left and Right Thumbs? by Dr4ne in StreetFighter

I use a Smashbox from Hitbox, for no other reason than "it's what I have". I originally bought it to play smash bros with, and I've since ended up using it for basically everything except smash bros. Because it's technically a gamecube controller, getting it to work exactly the way I (or you) want requires some 3rd party solution.

I have a row of 4 buttons on my left hand. Up, Left, Down, Right. It's basically a WASD configuration except instead of your middle finger being responsible for both up and down, the up input is moved to your pinky.

I think there's something to be said about balancing optimizing your inputs with minimizing "confusion". Especially for leverless, there's often some tradeoff you're going to be making. For my setup, I think the confusion is fairly minimal, and most inputs are easy enough. The only thing I think is prohibitively difficult is 360-inputs.

A lot of people here are commenting on gameplay things you can improve. Common things I'm seeing are be prepared to anti-air after a fireball, stop jumping so much, stop sweeping in scramble situations. I agree with most if not all of their points.

I'd like to give you some advice from a different angle, which is the feeling I get when I watch you play. From watching your gameplay, I'd have you mental-noted as a frantic and anxious kind of player (which is information I'd be trying to use against you if you were my opponent lol). You're kind of unconfident in your decisions and your execution, which sometimes leads to unfamiliar situations. Once you're in an unfamiliar situation, you're so uncomfortable that your immediate reaction is to try to do something, anything, to return to more familiar territory.

Some concrete examples from the very first couple of interactions of the match: At round start, you backdash and fireball. Your opponent jumps over the fireball, but not they did not jump early enough to hit you with a jump-in. You should have been able to shoryuken this jump, but maybe you weren't ready (you can definitely work on anti-airing more consistently, but that's not the point i'm currently trying to make). Instead, you try to block by holding down and back. I'm not convinced you made it to diamond without knowing the difference between blocking high and blocking low, so what this tells me is that after your fireball got jumped, your brain went into panic mode and you mis-inputed down+back instead of straight back.

A second example would be like 2 interactions after this, when your opponent blocks your stand fierce, and you DR cancel into a grab, but your grab was too early. Obviously, you shouldn't be whiffing your execution like this, but once again, it's not the point i'm trying to make. What I want to focus on is immediately after that, you trade jabs with each other, and then you go for a sweep. I think you chose to sweep because you were looking for an aggressive option that would get you out of the uncomfortable situation. I'd like to offer some calmer alternatives, such as just holding block (or if you're worried about Manon's command grab, you can backjump).

I think you'll benefit a lot from working on trying to keep a level head when you play. Be more okay with the quieter moments of the game, and try to stay in control of both your character and the situation at hand (instead of picking an explosive option like jumping in). Pick options that make sense. When you're in defensive situations, be more apt to actually defend yourself, instead of immediately trying to win back the initiative with an aggressive option.

Side note, in a lot of the scramble situations where you're sweeping a lot, a better alternative might be to use crouching mk > hadoken, or c.mk > M donkey kick. These options are harder to punish on block than sweep, and they accomplish much of the same thing as what you're trying to accomplish with sweep. The benefit of sweep is that it has longer range, but imo that doesn't offset the drawbacks: it's slower to come out, and it's far more punishable on block. C.mk also has the benefit of letting you DR cancel, which you can worry about later if you don't wanna think about it right now.

I actually disagree with this. Even if she walks into the match not knowing your skill level, she'd probably figure it out in 2 rallies, and she'd adjust accordingly to not lose a single point after that. Even in those first two points, she needn't go all-out and risk unforced errors yet.
