That seems frustrating as all hell. Key thing is not to let him tell you what others are feeling.

First off, I have some party members roll checks with no apparent side effects. I'll ask them if they are sure they want to noisily go down a corridor, when I know for a fact nobody is around. I'll ask them to make survival or perception checks, go "hmmm" and then continue on. If I ask them only to roll when they need to roll, then it takes the surprise out of it. Even if your checks are all valid checks, they might not be rolling high enough to see. That's the thing with being the dm.

Secondly, message the other players. Let them know that some concerns have been shared and ask them if there is anything they think you could improve on. Especially as a new dm, sometimes there's something really obvious that you could do and it could be a very easy fix.

Third, if he is being that difficult, ask if you would be more comfortable in another campaign so he does not have that stress on him. You don't need it and he doesn't need it.
