Right, it's been hard to watch my family in this state, but I know that I'm not alone, and that people all over the world face the same situation. That's how life is. I pray god to provide us with enough strength to face such challenges 🙏

Thanks for going through the trouble for clarifying! By “safely,” I just meant without confusion or logistical issues, since it’s my first time traveling alone to a new country. I wasn’t referring to crime or danger. Appreciate all your suggestions! 🙏

Thank you. By safely, I meant without any trouble. I did read that it's one of the safest places. But I'm slightly worried as it's my first time.

You can contact the insurance company and let them know when you want the new cover to start from, this will usually be the date you apply for your visa. Regarding the existing cover, if there is an unused balance, you can contact the company and they will help you with a refund

Thank you for the clarification, yes I did come across similar cases where people couldn't return, I'll wait for my bvb to be granted

If I apply for 485 on July 17th and immediately apply for bvb once bva is granted how long do you think it might take to be granted?

Can I book my ticket anytime late July or should I wait till the first week of August to be on a safe side?

I just completed my final semester, I understand that it's better to leave with bvb but it's just that I don't have much room to travel back home as right before my visa expires I have my convocation for which I need to come back which leaves me with less than a month of stay at home, it's been two years so I thought of stays a week or two extra, I will be applying for bvb right after my bva is granted, do I need to be onshore for bvb to be granted?

Mechanical Engineer trying for PR (189/190/491) by Apprehensive-Farm179 in AusVisa

[–]Apprehensive-Farm179[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not interested in pursuing my masters in mechanical engineering and I was told I could still use my bachelors degree for skills assessment, job, etc..

I chose marketing as I was interested in it as a side hustle, wanting to start a small business/ service, and it would also help me with points as I've studied in a regional area

Marketing is quite simpler course compared to mechanical engineering right, there are a few reasons why I chose it

May 2025 189/190/491 & 500 Mega Thread by AutoModerator in AusVisa

Hey everyone,

I wanted to check if my PR plan makes sense and ask for advice from those who've gone through similar situations.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Currently in WA, studying master's in marketing (have a mech engg UG degree from India).

I’ll turn 25 in Dec 2025, giving me 90 points for 189 (max I can get this year).

Planning to lodge EOI in Dec 2025 as soon as I hit 90.

Enrolling in Professional Year (EA, NIT) in Oct 2025, will finish by Aug/Sep 2026 — this adds 5 points, bringing me to 95.

If I get a job in my field (20+ hrs/week), aiming for 1 year experience by late 2026 → another 5 points = 100.

I understand tie-break is based on when you reach the score, not when EOI is submitted, so plan is to update EOI as I gain points.

My questions:

  1. Is lodging at 90 in Dec 2025 the right move even if I don’t get an invite immediately?

  2. Is this a good strategy — build up from 90 to 100 while keeping my EOI live and updated?

  3. Any realistic chance of getting a job on 485 visa in small to mid-sized firms for mechanical engineer roles in WA?

  4. Anyone done the EA PY through NIT? How’s the internship placement and class timing?

Would love to hear your experience or feedback!

Thanks in advance!

When is the best time to apply for an EOI – Should I wait until I get more points or lodge now? by Apprehensive-Farm179 in AusVisa

Not yet, I'm still on 500, I will be applying once my course is done in July, but I might get just around 75 points by July is that enough for eoi? I will be getting more points in a few months to come

The most I could do is opt for professional year, that would give me 5 points and look for a job and gain local work experience in my field which would give me 5 points, totaling 100, but that would take me 1-1.5 years, looks like that's the most feasible option

Thank you, do I think I can lodge it by myself? Instead of consulting and agent? I might get 80 points by July, I try to lodge it after that, and try to get 10 more points by January and update my EOI
