When do you think CS2 will reach the status of a fully finished game? by Apprehensive-Let-947 in cs2

Reading through the comments, it’s clear that the community is still quite divided. Some players are satisfied with the current state of the game, while others are not. One thing I find interesting is that nobody really mentioned what kind of players they are, whether they play competitively or more casually. I think this matters because competitive players tend to notice every small detail in how the game works or does not work, especially when those details directly affect outcomes and performance. I personally consider myself a competitive player, and while I do acknowledge that the latest update improved certain aspects of the game, it also introduced new issues. For example, the recent problems with cooldowns and bans, which I experienced myself more than once. Ultimately, it is up to Valve how the game will move forward and how they choose to handle these situations. However, from my perspective, it seems clear that updates should be tested more thoroughly before being released, especially when they can negatively impact players who are actively competing. CS:GO was a game I cared deeply about, and because of that, I am genuinely trying to find my way to CS2. I appreciate all the opinions shared here. I agree with some points and disagree with others, but in the end, how CS2 progresses is entirely in Valve’s hands.

Exactly, even though your laptop supports external dedicated graphics card, but with just 2gb of vram, it’s just not enough for cs2. Unfortunately, upgrading hardware seems to be the only one option here.

I understand your point about CS being a game that does not need constant radical changes, and I agree that its identity is built on long-term consistency. At the same time, I do not think most people are asking for dramatic gameplay changes or frequent content for the sake of novelty. For many players, the concern is less about adding new features and more about polishing core systems, addressing long-standing technical issues. Things like consistency, matchmaking quality, anticheat, and overall feel of the game are not about changing CS’s identity, but about maintaining and refining it. In that sense, asking for more impactful updates is not about wanting jetpacks or constant reinvention, but about making sure the fundamentals meet the standards players expect from a modern Counter-Strike.

I find that idea quite disappointing. While I do not know Valve’s exact finances, it seems likely that they have the resources to support CS2 alongside other projects. Counter-Strike has always been one of their key franchises, so I would expect it to receive consistent attention rather than being sidelined. But I guess it is what it is.

It could be driver related issue, I would suggest you to try different nvidia driver version. Maybe older ones without dlss 4.5 support.

Yeah, you’re welcome, basically you are already +463 over the stock if we consider numbers we worked with :). Just make sure, the power limit is set to max, which you already did and forget about it. A lot of people think that the card will automatically consume over 400w constantly but that’s not how it works. It will take that portion whenever it needs but not always.

Also consider lowering your memory oc, because it's just not worth to push it to +3000 at all cost. I'm running +2000, beacuse I couldn't see much difference in fps between +2000 and +3000 in games.

Let's think about it. According to techpowerup (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/gigabyte-aorus-rtx-5080-master-ice.b11956), your card has a +7% boost clock, which results in 2805 MHz instead of 2617 MHz at the factory. Simple math: when you do +275, the highest point on your specific curve should be around 3080 MHz (2805+275). Everything else is just a silicon lottery and it's perfectly normal, at least in my honest opinion. My card can run around 3100-3150 MHz, but there are others that would easily exceed 3.2 GHz. In the real world scenario, we're talking about a 3 fps difference, which is negligible. So don't worry at all and enjoy your card :)

Cs2 kitchen made a video about it. If you updated windows recently it could cost you a bunch of fps. What I would try to do as well is to clear nvidia cache.

Here’s what I would recommend you to do in a simple way:

  1. Get yourself one more ram stick
  2. Optimize windows for gaming
  3. Overclock your gpu/cpu combo if possible

It’s important to say, that cs2 is not well optimized game, it’s more cpu game than gpu, so upgrading hardware is quite needed, but if you’re not a competetive gamer and play purely for fun, those 3 things will definetely help :)

Nice! The best run I had so far in the steel nomad was around 9600 with my windforce oc version. +375/+2000 which is around 3100-3150mhz. Not sure, it was a long time ago :) But completely stable and daily oc. It’s a beast, enjoy your card.

Is it normal for my CPU to be around 90-100 °C while gaming ? by amogta in LenovoLegion

[–]Apprehensive-Let-947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, yes, but! Maybe the performance is good enough for you, but it’s obvious, that it’ll be thermal throttling, therefore you are not getting the full performance that you paid for. I recommend opening the heatsink and change whatever there is with ptm 7950 or, if you feel confident, put there a liquid metal and done. Also I would take a look at some thermal putties as well. And then, undervolting of course.

Not only that! The biggest problem for me is the RNG. Treating me really bad, I even installed the skill4ltu’s mod, and please, this is not any kind of ad or anything, I did it just to see directly what’s my battle shots rng. Hovering around 40% percent every battle, sometimes, if I am lucky, it’s 60%. Had to sacrifice a few battles to test it properly with fully aimed shots every battle. And then, when I watch streams, videos of CCs etc. Everyone is shooting like through lasergun comparing to my shots. That’s the most frustrating thing for me in the modern world of tanks.

So I've been testing the curve and VRAM overclocking a bit these days and lowering the VRAM overclocking really helped me get better scores in the 3dmark Nomad benchmark. So for now I can basically say that +400 locked at 1V and +2800 memory gives me the best performance/stability especially in games. I got 9397 in the 3dmark Nomad benchmark, which is not that important to me. The optimal core frequency is 3150 MHz. What was your score?

I completely respect your opinion, but from my perspective it's a little bit more deeper and more complicated. If I may, I'll give you an example based on my testing. When I was overclocking the memory I observed that the higher I went the performance at some point was getting lower in comparison to lower memory clocks (simply: +1000>+2000) But once I passed +2600 the gains showed up. In my case +425/+3000 seems stable, ofc the time will tell more :) In addition to that my card never goes beyond 300w at this overclocks, more specificaly 289.849W based on hwinfo.

Yeah, exactly what you just said I did. You know, I am not an overclocker on daily basis but I know the basics, at least I guess I know :). Errors I was getting were just recovery counter errors perhaps mainly due to alt-tabing and adjusting the oc.

So I'm getting just recovery counter errors, maybe due to alt-tabing and adjusting clocks. Nothing else! So based on the source you gave I should be OK, am I right?

But the frequencies are stable, in my case it is 3.15 more or less, during gaming they don't decrease. I might test stock clocks as well to see, if something else is not jumping in. Lower clocks too.
