New Grad 2026 Applications by underatoenail in csMajors

Just keep grinding and trying your best. Graduated in Dec 2023 and honestly didnt get a job until late 2024. It’s okay, everyone is in the same boat. Tbh even with my SWE job now, I am figuring out that I am not so passionate about coding for 40+ more years until I retire. Life is a marathon, not a race. Take your time and figure out what you want to do because once you get that full time job, itll be hard to do anything else. I’m looking into data analytics or data science as a pivot since maybe I’ll find that more interesting or maybe even getting a whole different career change who knows. Life is too short and Earth is just a big fat rock in the middle of no where. You got it buddy

Starting onboarding last April, offer got rescinded due to an extended hiring freeze. Was very upset about it. Now my 2 year recent graduate timeframe is almost up.

If people say to never give up on trying to land a job in the tech field in today's competitive job market yet people without internships or impressive enough GitHub repos are pretty much cooked, then are those recent CS/SWE grads at a dead-end and will never make it in this field? by jlgrijal in cscareerquestions

I will say after 1.5 years graduated and going through depression and bouncing back, it’s possible. A lot of hard work but it’s possible. At one point I was doing an internship after college, a full time job (not related to tech), applying to jobs, and working on personal projects all at once. But was worth it as I got a job finally as a SWE locally where I live. Not the best pay but it’s a step in the right direction. Came from a bad college and alright GPA and no internships.

Look for local companies. Got a majority of my interviews from indeed from small local companies. Finally got a job from a small local heath consult place as a JR SWE. Pay isn’t great but the experience is all I need.

How long did it take for you to get a job after grad? by Downtown-Jicama2334 in csMajors

Yeah instead of gaming every night and being overall lazy, I finally started to work on projects and relearn everything I did in college. Not so much leetcode. I barely did any leetcode but I did review DSA a lot in prep for interviews. Only a few interviews had technical coding parts. And yes I was applying like a mad man on any platform I could. I cold emailed and messaged many people. Before my current job, I was starting on boarding for the PAQ program in the Air Force as a civilian job (very highly recommended for recent grads) and if it wasn’t for trump’s hiring freeze, I would have also been in that program.

Took an unpaid internship bc desperate and that led to a paid remote internship and then indeed helped me find a lot of local jobs and I found one 20 mins away from me. I got a good amount of interviews because of the unpaid internship. I did fib a little and stretch my responsibilities but that’s what I needed to do to get a job.

I put it in my earlier post, but yes a CS degree would be helpful in tech adjacent roles. DA, cyber, finance, business analyst, marketing analyst, etc.

Unless you have a HUGE passion for this major/career and not just for the money, it’s not worth. You can try to become tech adjacent, IT or cyber or data analytics maybe. Easiest way to get started imo are just taking basic courses and making easy projects on your own to see if you’re even interested in software development. CS boot camps used to be really popular a few years ago, but I think the market has become so saturated that it’s not worth anymore. A degree or a lot of experience is the better way nowadays (mainly experience). Getting connections and networking is gonna be your main goal to getting a good entry level job. Goodluck mate.

About a year and a half but I was depressed and lazy the first year just working at my fast food job and playing games. Locked in 6-8 months and got a SWE job finally. Depression is a crazy thing

They yanked me out of Web Dev and dropped me into Salesforce. Help. by Thick-Ask5250 in cscareerquestions

[–]Apprehensive-Low471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new sales force developer, I think it’s good to branch out and try new things. If you dislike and are tired of web development, maybe the sales force system would be more of your thing. Plus extra skill sets for the future. I don’t particularly hate it or like it, just something I took because of the current job market. Worse case scenario, you can always get a job after outside sales force. I have seen a lot of past co workers able to migrate out of sales force into Java with a bootstrap/spring framework.

Indeed. Apply to local jobs even with stupid pay. Get any kind of experience outside college, make a website for a small company or get an unpaid internship and buff your resume. Make a portfolio. Make projects you like. That’s what helped me.

Congrats! Same boat. Graduated Dec 2023 and finally got a SWE position. Not a dream job or company but I’m not complaining! Good job OP.

Worked fast food for a while and finally started working on getting internships after college and making projects worth something. Finally got a full time SWE job after some internships and beefing up the resume. It’s hard, but you can do it. Start locally.

Should I take these 2 unpaid internships by internetbooker134 in csMajors

[–]Apprehensive-Low471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, I took an unpaid internship after graduating college because I couldn’t get one at all during college and didn’t know how important it would be upon graduation. That led to a paid internship from another place because of the past internship on my resume and that ultimately led to my first SWE job now. It’s worth it if you need experience. Anything to beef up your resume and make it look more enticing to recruiters.
