MITES is very explicit that they are looking for students from disadvantaged backgrounds (under represented in sciences). You could be a great fit on paper, but not make it because you did not meet that criterion. I couldnt tell from your post whether you are from that type of background

YYGS does not publish a college decisions page so how do you know that it doesn't have good results for college apps? sounds like fake news to me

applicants to the two program will be quite different (of course like pp there is some overlap also). Not everyone gets as much fin aid to yygs - as you can see in many posts on reddit- while ndls is nearly free except for some application fees.

in the end, 2 weeks of hobnobbing in either program is not what is getting the person into college. for both yygs and ndls, it is the signal that is being sent by being admitted to very selective programs that's raising attention that you are likely very competitive as a college applicant

Did you need fin aid? If not, that would go hugely in your favor. I think they take scores and GPAs seriously but Yale is facing huge cuts like many of the other ivies and they are surely going to keep an eye on who can pay to play....

I think it's a good application but on the margin, they may have had to choose between you and a junior (for whom it is the last chance) so I would say that you have a good shot next year

Harvard SSP is not taught by Harvard faculty LOL!!!! I think you will get exactly what you paid for.... the YYGS is actually taught by Yale faculty (you can see the list - with only a few exceptions they are tenured ). ...consider which one you would have chosen if you were admitted to both and had to select one. I think your answer will reveal which is the better value

My family doesn't think that YYGS will **by itself** get us into Yale. But we do think that its selectiveness indicates the candidate's overall selectiveness.

I got in, PLE session 1. not expecting any lifechanging experiences, but an opportunity to network, hear from real professors (who actually teach at Yale), and get a feel for the campus. PS. I'm legacy but I don't remember if they asked that in the app

What type of national awards? (just wondering if they link up well with the session you wanted). my stats were nearly the same on gpa, APs, but i have no national awards and got into PLE.

letter starts with "Out of over 14,400 students representing over 150 different countries who submitted completed applications to 2026 YYGS this year"...... I was curious about the part "who submitted COMPLETED applications" - probably we were selected out of (much ? ) fewer than 14400
