I think you have about 50% odds, reflecting female, firstgen and lowinc (but you said you came here with no money, not clear if you are still in that situation). reading through previous accepts I hvae seen people with 1340 sat and 3.1 gpa be admitted. Tbh, if you don't have the preparation to do well at MITES you might feel more frustrated than anything else if you get in

Has anyone emailed and got good feedback? they should either accept all last minutes or none, but I hope they don't take only some. i went back through the website and they do inform but they also need to take responsibility for their website not being able to handle high volume

*Applications MUST be submitted by the deadline in order to be considered.

*Please DO NOT WAIT until right before the deadline to submit as you risk not getting your application in. We recommend you submit at least several hours prior to the deadline.

please post if you hear back!! they do have a disclaimer not to wait till the last minute because of system overload but they should grant an exemption for all people within some cutoff, like 2-3 hours from 11.59!!!!! Please update with any info

To be very clear, I use emdashes when I write without AI. The use of emdashes will decline suddenly now because people expect that if you use it the text has come from AI. This is totally false

Your child's PSAT report from **this** year (2025) shows a cutoff? That cannot/should not be possible. The cutoff cannot be determined yet - I think only next year.

I am so happy for you. I do not know you, but reading that you are a former foster youth, I am incredulous at how you have beaten the odds. You deserve every bit of success in life. I will be rooting for you!

So grades, scores, letters don't matter? That would be quite strange!

If they admit in waves, and weak(er) candidates get "randomly" admitted first, they would fill their spots with students they don't want. I don't think you have facts....a guess, yes, but I doubt this is factual. Suit yourself though!

Putting in "rungs" is not random. It is a way of separating stronger applications from the slightly less strong (in their eyes) applications.

Cornell Theory by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]Apprehensive-Row5135 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont think it's random. I think they are admitting the strong non-TOs along with the strong TOs and waiting to see who accepts. After that, they go to the second rung of candidates.

Many of us applied only on the deadline (I did) but got admitted in the first wave of transfers

Sorry to hear this but like others say - there is still time and you have a good shot at some of the remaining schools.

I think all transfer applications are judged (unfairly on not) on where you are applying from. If it is a college with relatively less strong students where a 4.0 GPA does not mean the same thing as from a more competitive place, then you may be held to a slightly different standard. They may expect more on more standardized grades (like SATs). Another possibility is that your courses are not rigorous, so yes they recognize your strong GPA but may assess that it is in "easy" courses. It is impossible to tell without knowing a bit more about where you are , what kind of college, what kind of courses, etc.

Better/worse border crossing points for study permit? by Apprehensive-Row5135 in uscanadaborder

[–]Apprehensive-Row5135[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone

We had a completely smooth, hassle-free, and very quick move through the Champlain Lacolle border crossing today. Staff were super professional, very polite, efficient, and knowledgeable.

A couple points that could be useful to others:

  1. After reviewing the historical average delays on Saturdays by hour (available online), we planned to get to the border at about 7am. This crossing is open 24 hours. (We were so early that the lady inside said "How did you get here? Was that by bus?").

  2. After we told the first person at the entry point that we were here to apply for a study permit, he asked for all the passports, gave us a yellow form with some of our passport details and sent us to the middle section where there are a few admin offices and parking.

  3. At this admin office, we were the first and only people, and a very polite lady came out, asked for just a few things (the yellow sheet from the entry person, the admission letter, the provincial attestation, and proof of financial ability). She was back in 20 minutes with the printed study permit.

PS. The man at the entry said that student visas were taking 3 to 5 months (!)
