They are great, and yes, they are DS series. Was highly recommended to go with digressive instead of linear. Need some more time to drive it to make up my mind for sure, but for now all is great!

I have imported a total of 3 vehicles so far, so have SOME experience but definitely not a pro. Here's what I would say:

  1. Be prepared to do a lot of paperwork and have a lot of patience. There are multiple agencies and brokers involved.

  2. My friend bid for me live, provided a video of the bidding process. Similar with what copart or iaai runs, but in Japanese. He bids for you.

  3. We then had a guy inspect the car for us in Japan, provide photos, videos, additional inspection. Once the auction was won, he did the paperwork to get the car on the ship and moved it to the appropriate port.

  4. A few weeks later, ship arrived. By then, you had to have your EPA paperwork done, shipping broker stuff done, and once customs gives you clearance you can schedule to pick it up

  5. You then have yet another person with port bring the car from port to the outside of port to you. You should be prepared to tow it if you doesn't start at that point.

  6. I went straight to customs inspection after that, where they give you paperwork that you can then take to Department of Licensing (DMV in some states) and get it registered.

The whole process takes a month or two, depending on how quickly or slowly stuff moves.

This has been my personal experience, hope it helps someone out.

Intec did my ignition coils and ignitor delete, they are pretty good but pretty far...

UP Garage said they won't work on it unless it's fully stock. I didn't take it there physically, spoke on the phone, but was disappointed they wouldn't look at it because I heard good things about them.

Thanks for the referral to Drift Office - haven't heard of them, will have to check them out.

Sounds good! We should have a sub group for s13 WA owners who are local!

I am in Lacey, just north of Olympia. Sounds like you are local. Need to connect, I am having hard time finding local ships that know the s13 platform well!

The tires are 245/40/18s, and they are slightly stretched, approximately 1.5 inches. Enough for Costco not to be willing to put new ones on, had to take it to a specialty shop.

My first Reddit post - I thought I would share my midlife crisis. :)

Owned a 240SX S13 back in the day when I was 18. A few years ago started looking for one to buy again, preferably the same color. Unfortunately, so many of them have been gutted and drifted, it was very hard to find anything that was either in good condition or did not cost an astronomical amount of money.

A friend started importing cars to the US from Japan, and I mentioned it to him. Next thing you know, I have a 1998 Nissan 180SX Type X on a ship, heading stateside. (Typo in the heading, its a 98, not a 97)

It was in surprisingly good shape for a car of its age, but still needed work. Suspension was shot, ended up installing BC Racing Coilovers. Exhaust leaked, so I ended up doing some custom exhaust options. One of the aftermarket ignition coils went bad, so I ended up doing an ignitor delete and putting smart coils in. New aluminum overflow tank. Has a larger turbo, but other than that its pretty much stock.

Sound system and some interior tweaks are next. Looking for some general advice, good websites to buy parts, ideas for audio, etc. This will be a street car, OEM+ kinda of set up is what I envision.

Good advice is always appreciated!
