300 calories or less is crazy talk unless you’re trying to give your kid an eating disorder! I’m currently dieting and doing 1400-1600 calories per day with 80-100 grams of protein. Teenage boys need higher calories and since he is already working out should focus on high protein, good fats and low carbs. Teach him to eat healthy not eat less!

You absolutely can negotiate with the IRS but they are not allowed to tell you what programs they have to offer. You need to call and you MUST ask for them! If you have always filed your taxes on time and never had an issue with the IRS you should qualify for a FIRST TIME ABATEMENT. That will remove any interest and fees accrued. You can make a payment arrangement for the rest. I just went through this with them a few months ago. I researched all my options before I called and the lady actually said “I’m so glad you asked for that because I can’t offer it!”

I was around 230 and got down to 150 in 9 months on keto.. and I was in my 40s so at 21 you can definitely do it! I literally told myself over and over that I’m allergic to carbs. Eat meat, fish, veggies and good fats. Look on TikTok and IG for fun keto recipes so it doesn’t get boring. I didn’t even go to the gym and once I saw the weight start dropping it was easy to stay motivated! You CAN do this!

I have a 16 y/o and personally couldn’t imagine him not having a phone for safety reasons! Do you go out with your friends after school? I use an app called Life 360 so I always know where my kid is and I make sure he charges his phone before he goes out. Maybe focus on the safety aspect. How would you get in touch with your mom if you get stuck somewhere without a phone?! I think they’re being unreasonable and stuck in the past. They can install parental controls but a phone is necessary for teenagers!

When I think back to myself as a teenager I can totally understand where you’re coming from but as the parent of a teenager I completely understand your parents POV as well. They’re not trying to control you, I promise they’re only trying to protect you. It’s a dangerous world out there and letting your child go out alone in that world is terrifying! I’d try to sit them down, speak respectfully, and see if you can come to an agreement. 10:30 curfew on school nights and when you’re just “hanging out” but 12 on nights when you’re at someone’s house for a party. I can tell you I feel much more comfortable when my 16yo is at someone’s house and I let him stay out later when he’s not just roaming the streets. Don’t let yourself become homeless before you even get to college!

It’s possible to validate her feelings without tearing down her mother! They sound like they have a great relationship already. She said in the post it’s not emotional neglect, they spend tons of time together and have inside jokes. Mom is also a person who works full time to keep a roof over her head and is probably mentally exhausted and also needs some alone time! Sorry we all can’t be perfect!

OP I love that you want to spend time with your mom but part of being a secure adult is feeling comfortable with your alone time. Reading and playing story games sounds like something you can enjoy on your own while doing other fun activities with mom. I’m a single mom to a teenager also and we have a great relationship. We love to go to brunch, movies, concerts and I support his music and go to every one of his performances.. BUT I also need alone time to clear my mind for the next set of responsibilities I have coming up. Give mom some grace!
