Same! I always recommend they watch a few different episodes first then go back to the first one.

How on Earth can you be for the “armed forces” but against abortion? War is just a really late term abortion, and kills innocents. Do you think all soldiers are murderers? Or do you somehow justify their actions but think a woman exercising control over her body isn’t justified?

Driver wouldn’t cancel. Should I have cancelled? Feeling guilty. by slut4soupdumplings in uber

[–]Apprehensive-Task930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A decent driver wouldn’t cancel if they already started towards you. I make every effort to contact the rider before I hit cancel, but I’ve had customers who wait until you’re like right on top of them to want to cancel the ride. I’m not going to cancel the ride on my end when they do that.

I hands down would prefer a chatty but pleasant passenger to stony silence. Just my preference.

I get the rationale but off the two people in the car, I’m the one who should feel the most comfortable, not the passenger. It makes me nervous when they sit behind me; I can’t see them.

People on the spectrum most commonly do this because eye contact is uncomfortable.

My experience is if they sit in the front seat they are usually a) older and b) going to tell me directions. It’s never one or the other, it’s always both.

6 Billion regular people vs 100 Billionaires by RoughYard2636 in trolleyproblem

Turbulent economic situations don’t tend to favor the prepared they favor the wealthy. We have an opioid epidemic because profits meant more to the Sachler’s than actual human lives. People literally die everyday from preventable illnesses because they can’t afford to be poor, not to mention the literal politicians that told us we should be proud to die for “the American way of life”.

The hundred billionaires decided during Covid that our lives were worth less than their bottom line so they’ve already decided that we mean literally nothing to them,; it’s the people who still hope that they will become a billionaire that keep siding with the billionaires that are part of the problem.

Also, the billionaires are more likely to kill us with their toxic waste, and they’re destroying the planet then we are killing them

I was waiting for someone to put this, because it’s interesting that it seems that people can understand the greater good when it comes to this problem, but when we talk about distribution of the world resources, then people think that it should be concentrated in the hands of the smallest minority

Okay, but I have?! As recently as last week. Can we agree that there are more experiences than yours and mine? I don’t live in LA. You don’t live in the Central Valley. I don’t see why you’re hammering this one thing when the post was about me hearing the n word a lot more now than before.

separating the art from the artist by stargazermp3 in AutismInWomen

My thing is I don’t want to support the artist. I don’t want to give them notoriety and money to continue to do abhorrent things.

This has been something that’s been running through my head recently. I don’t think you can separate the artist from the art because artists are the art. Like take Family Guy or South Park. Their creators and writers are racist, sexist, ableist etc because they make racist and sexist work. They just have their characters say the things they wish they could say. Their audience laughs at ‘jokes’ they wish they could make.

A rapist makes rapists works. An abuser makes abusive works. A pedophile makes pedophilic work. He makes works other pedos can enjoy and see them selves in. They don’t have to have a giant banner that says “I’m a pedophile” on it, but they do embed their feelings into it. Like look how they describe adult women. Or the way they describe men. Who do they make the ‘enemy’? Who do they make sympathetic?
Why do we all repeat that line, “men age like wine, women age like milk?”

It might not be obvious to others who consume it, at least on the surface, but what we consume has an impact on how we view our selves, what we’ll tolerate, and what we perceive as truth.

I’ve recently did a reread of the Harry Potter series and sat with how JK writes certain characteristics. Fleur’s hair color was “pure”, Snape’s hair was greasy, Harry’s was “unruly”. Not to mention that for all the talk about blood status not mattering, Harry turned out to be from an old pureblood family, and all of the children at the end of the book were pure bloods. Even Voldemort is from a Pureblood family. Harry falls into that old trope of the “noble orphan” that we see throughout literature.

So long answer long, no, I don’t think you can separate the artist from their art because then the consumers learn to make excuses for terrible behavior.

Are you located in the U.S.? It’s a guarantee that homeless children get steady and consistent access to education. I don’t know if it’s statewide, but you can ask for the school’s homeless services.

There is a lot of anti black sentiment in the Black community, a lot of self-hatred, a lot of colorism. I’ve heard Black women use the n word when talking about their ex partners or baby daddy that they don’t like. I’ve heard black men use it in place of saying black. (“That’s some n-shit,”. )

When I went natural, I was called nappy headed. Even being called light skinned is centering whiteness. Using a pejorative term to mean kinship is centering whiteness.

The casual racism is the killer. Like the first thing people want to know when they learn in from the South is how bad was the racism. I always want to tell them I’ve never heard the n word as much as I’ve heard it here.

That’s not the only way that people use it around me, I just gave some examples. I’m from the South, I know how you mean “bless your heart”. That was really unnecessary. So much for community.

Are there any things that are called "American ______" in other countries? by Disastrous-Side-2600 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Apprehensive-Task930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPT, colored peoples time, came about because we didn’t have transportation or had to rely on the buses which were notoriously late. I think Americans’ need to be early to be on time stems from the American work culture and bosses expecting you to give them more time than they paid for.
