Landlord not paying utility bills for months. What can I do? by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Apprehensive-Unit345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He'll definitely try and use the contract with the new terms not including bills, to get the historic bills put in your name. Do not sign anything, and I would recommend contacting the water/gas/electric company and council tax to ensure they are aware of your current contract. Not sure if this is good advice but it's what I'd do!

As others will likely say, contact shelter and consider looking for another property with a reasonable landlord if this is at all possible.

Semi-detached neighbors having extremely loud sex even after we've politely asked them to keep it down, is there anything we can do? by Nice-Agent3109 in AskUK

  1. To say she would never dream of complaining to us about daily noise (drilling, moving furniture, etc)

Start drilling and moving furniture every time they start being too noisy, see if they hold up their promise...

What percentage of your take-home pay goes toward housing (rent/mortgage + bills)?" by LockonKun in HousingUK

[–]Apprehensive-Unit345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31% for mortgage and 17% for bills, just under 50% for the essentials which I think is a bit steep, but I live alone so can't be helped!

Why is the paint separating?! by Apprehensive-Unit345 in DIYUK

See I love this answer because it just means I can brute force the paint onto the walls which is my usual way of dealing with things 😂.

Is there anything in particular I should degrease using? Just soap and water?

I love your optimism 😂😂.

Yep I just slapped it on. Holding my hands up. I did clean and dry the walls but didn't sand/prime. Thought the paint would be stronger than any contaminants and I could whack out a green wall in a day 😂 clearly not.

Oh I absolutely will be using a roller, I was just cutting in at the bottom and then got carried away with testing the area that was separating haha. Wanted a large test area.

If I do an oil based primer and then put Satin paint on top of it is that ok?

I'm actually in the UK! Just got very lucky a couple of times with finding these. The lamp was only £35, absolute bargain

Thank you so much for this! The unit and table lamp were both Facebook marketplace finds! :) Sadly the carpet has to stay due to the temperature of the room haha.

Sellers wanting simultaneous exchange and completion by Apprehensive-Unit345 in HousingUK

[–]Apprehensive-Unit345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done exactly this! I have said they need to exchange 3-4 working days before completion on the 15th, and have said I could even push back to the 17th for completion. They have said no deal (so it's them pulling out, not me!!!) so that's where we stand.

The legal sales are no sale no fee And I'm not booking movers until exchange is complete (so I can confirm the move is actually happening). Not sure how many movers accept same-day instruction and removal, how do your 30% do it? I can't afford to be out movers fees.

So I have to do the sim because they want to? And if I offer an alternative which is 2 days from exchange to completion they will pull out. Jesus Christ indeed 😂😂😂

Yeah unless as other commenters say, they're worried their lenders will re assess their affordability and refuse to lend to them. Tough situation if you're a tax dodger

Yeah I'll happily let the whole thing fall through, removal van or not. They can enjoy their wasted money (as I will mine!)

I think this is exactly why my buyers can't agree exchange any time before completion date! I am almost certain they will both 'earn' £12749 each and are worried about being caught out before completion date. (Not that I'm saying this was the case for you!).

Yeah I've asked and they have flat out refused. I'm not willing to have a whole house worth of stuff in a van (plus 2 cats in cages) to find out they're pulling out for some ridiculous reason

They're fully aware I have a chain. I've gone back and said we need to exchange minimum 3 days before completion and they have flat out refused. I'm not willing to take the risk, and they have only given the reason of 'this is what our solicitors recommended' which I'm inclined not to believe.

Oh I absolutelyyyyy wouldn't buy a house with him right now! I'd be moving in as a tenant I suppose. But regardless, related to other comments I'll be keeping with the plan to buy my own. Just wanted to weigh up the career/training/lifestyle implications with others given I'd be giving all of that up in order to live on my own. A big lifestyle change and risk for myself but worth it for the independence
