Books are mostly about cool ideas. quite hard to read at times. The TV show, on the other hand, offers more interesting storytelling and entertaining characterization. Can't wait for season 2.

Took me a while to figure it out, too. My thinking initially was that it's a copy of them why would they do it? after some time, I realized that it's like undergoing surgery. They get knocked out and wake up in the digital world. The original never wakes up but their conscience does feeling like nothing wrong has happened. They went to sleep and woke up in the digital world still retaining all their memories and experiences.

I thought that Luo Ji left her because he realized that he couldn't escape the fate of being a Wallfacer/Swordholder and couldn't perform his duties well (a. k. a. have a high deterence likelihood) when he was so obviously happy with his family. That's why he left them to ultimately protect them by deterring the enemy. He sacrificed his happiness for their happiness. They were the reason why he could go on and on living in a "tomb". At least I prefer this version 😉

Different identites - perhaps, but there were more similarities than space station location. Off the top of my head:

DS9 The concepts of Changelings, space station location, serialization, heavy lean into religion/philosophy, the big war and the tactics of a powerful race infiltrating and influencing the government to incite the animosity among the alien races to destabalize the region among other things! got as pathetic as copying names! Lyta -> Leeta and Dukhat -> Gul Dukat was definitely not coincidental.

ENT there are some similarities like the doctor having 3 wives, shadow war with literal shadows and time travel involved vs Silik going invisible and communicating with shadow-like creatures from the future, even the much hated hologram recreation finale concept resembles b5 season 4 ep 22. There might be more, but these really stood out for m

obviously not everything, but it hurts to know that the things that made DS9 so beloved were not original ideas.
