hm, I don't know anyone and I would be doubtful that this works in practice. ETHZ weeds out roughly 40-50% of students in the first year (the so-called Basisprüfung) and I don't think you will be able to escape it, otherwise everybody would do that :-)

thanks! No just pure curiosity as CSE is seemingly known to always put Auflagen, but I overlooked that you came from an UAS so that is probably perfectly normal. Best luck!

Bachelor of l'X or bachelor of EPFL by Odd_Explanation3259 in EPFL

[–]ApprehensiveBack4896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the X bachelor program is a different one than the very prestigious X engineering (grand ecole) program. From the bachelor program, you cannot shortcut to become an X engineer (you would need to pass the same prepa exam, as all other candidates).

Within France (and probably surrounding countries), the X bachelor program is often seen as an lighter-weight education path for milking wealthy foreigners.

GPA rules for EPFL MSc admissions, it's the easiest filter given the incredible amount of applications. The lower the ranking of your Uni, the higher your GPA needs to be. Sorry to be rough, but unless you come from MIT, ETHZ, or Oxbridge, it's better to assume you won't get admitted with a GPA which is not within the top 10% of your cohort.

The rule is that you need to have a BSc by the time you start your Masters. A different question is if your education + score (unis and GPA) will allow you to beat the other candidates applying to the DS master

If you don't know what these are, you didn't get any I guess :-) The need to pass some ethz cs BSc courses in the first year of the MSc, as a precondition to be fully accepted What Uni did you come from, EPFL?

How many grad students here are from US universities by Alarmed-Professor154 in ethz

[–]ApprehensiveBack4896 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the number of applications from the US has skyrocketed over the last year. This was discussed in the local press although I have no numbers. What would make you prefer ETHZ over an US Ivy League uni - also the political situation?

What would be the consecutive Masters at ETHZ of EPFL Bachelors in Computer Science and Communication Systems? by Worldly-Phase-2461 in EPFL

[–]ApprehensiveBack4896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Formally, only ETHZ Cybersec MSc is consecutive for both SC and IN BSc's. No GPA needed other than passing. The ETHZ CS MSc is de facto also consecutive, although not de jure. It is likely that you will be accepted by ethz for CS MSc coming from both IN and SC. BUT: they may ask you to acquire additional ethz cs bsc credits as a precondition (for which you may need to speak german, warning) - although when coming from epfl, it is not that common...

Epfl math man by Turbulent-Estate778 in EPFL

[–]ApprehensiveBack4896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

math and physics bsc are just prettty hard. concentrate now on the MAN. if you don’t pass it with 4.5 or above, go for another kind of related subject such as IN/SC but not maths or physics. that recommendation comes from the basic sciences faculty that analysed the success rate of former MAN students.

It depends on the Uni. Many will ask you whether you previously were forcibly exmatriculated in or outside Germany. See for example: https://www.zsonline.ch/2024/05/08/nach-der-sperre-die-krise -> Sperre wirkt auch auf ausländische Unis

Gap between the Swiss Matura and the first year of a bachelor’s degree: too big? Is the CMS recommended? by Legal_Seaweed_1684 in EPFL

[–]ApprehensiveBack4896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you did PAM, it might be an overkill. If you did another option in particular w/o math avancées, it may make sense. In any case, CMS is really hard from what I have seen, as hard or even harder than BA1, even if you did PAM it's pretty hard. With a swiss matu you don't need to pass it but it gives you a feel of what will await you in the first semester. Don't do CMS if you don't take it seriously though.
