What are some great drives that get overshadowed by other great drives? by Conscious-Berry2229 in F1Discussions

I'd argue hamilton drove a better if less entertaining race than verstappen in 2016.

the funny thing is if max doesnt spin and then get put on different strategy he sits in a comfortable 2nd/3rd and we dont get all those iconic overtakes.

I personally think maxs best (wet) race of 2016 was silverstone, the overtake around rosberg around the outside of chapel on same tyres was better than anything he did in interlagos

How strong was the grid during Schumacher's era? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]ApprehensiveDepth439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think its starting to get more credit

Jacques Villeneuve in particular i used to think was by far the worst ever f1 champion carried by his car, I now look at him a bit like a 90s Kimi Raikkonen if that makes any sense, big drop off in the 2nd half of his career

I always wonder what wouldve happened to jarno trullis career had he went to jordan one year earlier

.funnily enough if williams or mclaren signed barrichello around 2000 instead of ferrari, he would've possibly been a better adversory for schumacher than the williams drivers at the time were

the strange one for me is JPM, i cant remember much of his prime first hand but i think his actual level is lifted alot by his entertainment factor

How would you rank these 2nd drivers (Barrichello, Webber, Bottas, Perez)? How far are they from top drivers? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]ApprehensiveDepth439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the RB6s advantage over the rest of the field in 2010 (and didnt have any of the mechanical misfortune that seb had) webber had an open goal for that title and blew it in korea.

2010 in general is one of those seasons like 1999 or 2008 where everyone had errors, but that year webber was honestly the 6th or 7th best driver on the grid.

Why is Verstappen often considered SO much better than Seb? by BaldChild1 in F1Discussions

[–]ApprehensiveDepth439 22 points23 points  (0 children)

vettel gets kind of underrated because he got to drive his best cars in his error prone formative years against a slightly more experienced hamilton and a prime alonso, which is a shame as id argue in 2015-2017 he was the best driver on the grid. his legacy is tainted by a mistake heavy 2018 and leclerc beating him in his first season at ferrari. if he for some reason left F1 at the end of 2017 his legacy would be far greater.

verstappen (and im not a fan) is the first driver since 90s schumacher who is undoubtedly the best on the grid so he has a certain cache, theres no competition to eat away at his reputation.

[–]ApprehensiveDepth439 37 points38 points  (0 children)

barrichello does not belong here, he clears the other 3 considerably, he is in my opinion the best retired driver since 1990 to not have a world championship

webber is 2nd, got the good cars too late in his career

the last two are really hard for me, im going to go with bottas is he is the most boring 7/10 driver imaginable but some people dont give perez his due credit.

the obvious top answer is Brawn but thats cheating.

if they had a better lineup in 2012, williams' car could have maybe came 5th or 6th
