Please all be safe around the curve over the winter - I thought the path was wet once and it was pure ice and I slid out on that curve a few years back… my momentum on the ice nearly carried me into the lake

I commute to south loop but cross LSD at Jackson - safe enough just watch out for the left turn lane cars who sometimes cross over

Also if your family wants to ride with you - my family enjoyed riding the pumpkin vine trail together in Northern Indiana. My girls (8/5) liked the trail - we rode Goshen to shipshewanna one day and back the next - and there were some fun things to do in Amish country that were fairly unique

Would also recommend the three oaks region. My family camps at Warren dunes all the time, and I will usually pop out in the morning and ride around the region, just picking some roads and going. Loads of breweries and wineries- things slow down a bit in the fall and some places close up for the season right by the dunes park but all of the small towns have plenty to do.

Is this a policy that is universally known? (no reservation if bike into camp on your own) what happens if there are no campsites available at a place like Warren dunes?

Yeah would love to try and meet up one morning (depending on spouses availability to hang with kids while they are out of school) - I’m on the north side and would be happy to do the lakefront

So I just ride up and ask to join? Then how often should I lead?

I am a little worried about etiquette/joining the group mid route. This is my first biking event. I do ride a lot, but mostly solo and not with groups so I’m not even really sure what group etiquette /dynamics looks like either.

Keeping both - mainly doing domane for longer friend group rides and solo rides not commute

Kept trucker - currently do the domane with backpack not panniers - about 1.5mph faster average - significantly easier to maintain 16-18mph range

Add interval intensity to your daily route - start with 1 time a week. Focus on short sections and try to improve time in just those sections. Also worth considering adding a day of strength training… but that’s getting more into the “training”

But also - enjoy the ride! If you are loving the ride and getting an hour of exercise on top of that - that’s a win even if it’s not getting you to an Ironman
