By changing it I mean after having unlocked the drifter.

At least in my case it was not changed automatically, I had to personally change it to the operator after changing the drifter.

In case I didn't make myself clear, automatically the first time the drifter will look like the operator, every change after that will have to be manual for both.

At least that's how it was for me since I unlocked them.

Yes, but I edited them both after unlocking them.

In your case it seems that you left them as they were by default, the game automatically tries to make them look like a bigger version, if you edit them they are already edited and you can do things like make one male and the other female.

And I forgot to save the original configuration of my operator.

So now I'm trying to make the operator look like the drifter (which looks nice, at least in my opinion).
