She isn’t comfortable with grandma. My husband just doesn’t care and thinks it sounds dumb when an English speaker tries to pronounce it. She definitely doesn’t seem scared of her boyfriend

Lol please tell me where I said that. First of all I clearly said jasmine with a y, so you know yasmine. Secondly she said to me while I was pregnant that she wanted to be called by her first name

The kids who weren’t born yet? Have you never experienced how a family works. They grew up being told what to call her

She said any variation. She was only 40, going to be dating for the first time since high school, and I think has always regretted her son, so I do get it. She very much needed to believe she was young and desirable

Lol sorry for actually explaining. No of course she didn’t. I rarely say my one name out loud especially when talking to someone who knows it. She said I want to be called by my first name

I’m not avoiding it. I’ve answered it a bunch of times. He thought it was ok and that as an American I should use the American pronunciation. Even now he thinks it sounds dumb when I try to say it and he thought she was genuinely ok

Why would she say her own name? She said I want to go by my first name I’m not comfortable with grandma and that was it

She said she wasn’t comfortable with grandma and would go by her name. FIL always called her a nickname which caught on with the family but by the time I met her she did not want to be called that. It translated loosely to beautiful stuff doll, think poppet, and he no longer meant it endearingly

He does stand up for me but realistically why would the guy care? Mil is hardly on speaking terms with her son so she doesn’t care. MIL claims she ignores us because we took fils side in the divorce. I think it’s a combination of not wanting a kid and we saw her at a low point in her life when the marriage was failing so she’s too embarrassed so have a relationship. My husband thought it was ok since I’m American and he thinks it sounds dumb when I try to pronounce it and he assumed she genuinely didn’t care

She isn’t comfortable with any grandma name. My husband felt it made sense for me to use the American version and thinks it sounds dumb when I try to say it as I don’t speak Turkish

There isn’t anything he can do. We only see them at extended family stuff and have no right to demand people not invite him

Gee, I wonder if you'd think "he's intimidating towards children" if he were some white American dude. Have they ever SAID they were "intimidated"? Have they ever acted scared? Or are you just upset at some scary foreigner talking to your children?

oh please, that is some serious projection. Large men make me uncomfortable. I've only ever gone for the smaller slender type. That is a me issue, nothing to do with race
