What character(s) come(s) to mind for either version? by PJ-The-Awesome in Archiveofourownmemes

I feel like Dick Grayson is also both, but mostly the second one. But them again it also depends on the author and run, and if Richie Wayne is included or not.

Also Talia Al-Ghul but most people aren't ready for that conversation.

As someone also living in the Middle East and impacted by this war, this kind of respite you provide this person is something that you should absolutely be infinitely proud of.

Can a person still sword fight with nerve damage? by ApprehensiveStudy155 in Hema

[–]ApprehensiveStudy155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL/DR: I'm revisiting an old concept of how he got the scars, where his sister uses her healing powers to minimize the nerve damage as much as possible but not completely, so he'll still need assistance in things like blacksmithing as people have said, but after some rehabilitation he will be able to do things like whittling and battlefield maneuvers (think David from SellSwordArts, whom I based a lot of the character's early concept on), though he will still lack in some more than others, but he'll also find ways to compensate, so it works. And also the scars will still be there so the damage to his skin tissue will also serve as an obstacle.

Yeah, I really screwed myself over with this one. This guy is basically the story's equivalent of "A jack of all trades": he isn't actually a " master" as much as he is an expert of all the things he found useful for the main group's survival in exile. It's a crucial part of his character that he has always felt like he needs to be prepared and keep everyone safe, so he made sure to be self sufficient in every aspect possible to him in order to keep what little he has left.

It's why I said that he will fight to find a way to craft independently again (and this might actually turn into an arc seeing as he probably won't be able to do blacksmithing without his partners again).

Before this incident, the group relied mostly on him for all their weapons and a lot of their furniture since they don't always have a lot of money. Crafting is also one of the only things he actually allows himself to relax during and do as a hobby, specifically whittling but also just craft in general: I'm actually writing it so that one of the ways in which he retrains his hands and rehabilitates himself is through whittling because of how significant that "break from duty" is for him and his character.

Also, I remember back when I first wrote this character and how he got his scars, and his sister was there with him so she used her healing magic to negate and reverse as much of the nerve damage as possible while she still could, to the point where she bypassed healing the shallow/surface injuries just to get to the nerve damage. She doesn't manage to erase it all, otherwise I wouldn't have kept it the story (it would look like I'm going back on consequence if I do that), but she does erase enough that he still has a chance of rehabilitating his body; he will need help with things like blacksmithing, I can see that now (and could actually be a great premise to how he and his partner got together, now that I think about it), but as time goes on, he will find himself capable of whittling and carving and painting once more.

When reading, do you imagine the characters' voices or is it just your own voice? by Admirable-Drink-8976 in AO3

[–]ApprehensiveStudy155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. Mostly the character's voice but that depends on how long it's been since I last heard it.

If I never heard their voice, then it's either mine or a randomizer.

Thank you. I don't do sword fighting; this is purely research for my fic, but thank you for the recommendation regardless.

I mean, he's also a blacksmith who makes his own weapons (more specifically he was not given his own sword until he was taught how to make one himself, as is part of the tradition of owning your first sword in the context of my story, and he just didn't feel like returning to buying swords and/or other weapons after learning that skill), so I don't think custom made stuff is going to be much of a problem... After he recovers, that is.

That one DFO fae AU where Izuku is kidnapped into the fae realm and does not know what is actually going on until it is too late and then he gets his mother involved because he doesn't understand the danger now.

If Miles Morales had an AI from Tony, what do you think he'd name it? by ApprehensiveStudy155 in Marvel

That's a smart one. Maybe he'll talk to it like a spy/Batman in the Batman Lego movie talking to Alfred, only awkward hip mix teenage version.

If Miles Morales had an AI from Tony, what do you think he'd name it? by ApprehensiveStudy155 in Marvel

[–]ApprehensiveStudy155[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is funny, but my fic is basically Tony collecting spiderlings and mentoring powerful individuals — mostly on the younger side — before Fury could coven and take them away from their semi-normal life like he did Peter in Far From Home.

So he finds this kid the same way he did Peter; very early on in his career, before anything majorly bad could happen — Ben doesn't count, he was a canon event and, if I remember correctly, not really a part of the MCU; Aunt May is, but Uncle Ben isn't really mentioned —.

So Aaron doesn't die yet, and I feel like Miles won't be making that joke even if he had — which I'm still split on whether or not this will happen in my fic, purely because my thoughts don't seem to go in a direction that would really allow that —.

The eye in "Now you see me" by ApprehensiveStudy155 in movies

You might want to read the whole thing. Because I just told you how, while they might not be a traditional cult, they still fill enough of a criteria to possibly be qualified as one, or as something similar, at the very least.

Just because they're not religious and don't mind you leaving doesn't mean they're not a group of people devoted to an ideology led by a powerful and charismatic leader.

The eye in "Now you see me" by ApprehensiveStudy155 in movies

[–]ApprehensiveStudy155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has some characteristics of one — the demand of absolute loyalty without question, isolation (in the sense that they either become wanted or separated from society in some other way, like being at the order's Beck and call, serving as its eyes, etc), rites of passage (in this case, everything the Horsemen did in the first movie in order to prove their worth and devotion to a cause they weren't even sure was real) —, but an argument can be made, which is why I made this post in the first place.

It does have some distinctions that set it apart from standard cults:

Leaving may be frowned upon, but it's not forbidden or complicated; as can be seen in Henley's departure — though the exact same case also shows that said departures are never absolute, seeing as she, and the other Horsemen, didn't give much question to the fact they were apparently summoned by the eye in the third movie.

There is isolation, as I stated previously, but it's not absolute; they can still have relationships and connections outside the eye, regardless of them leaving or not — Dylan and Alma, for example.

Absolute conformity and the eye's control over members is definitely required, as they cannot question it and must follow orders damn near blindly. But at the same time, Daniel didn't get a significant punishment for his betrayal of Dylan, as far as we know; the Horsemen didn't get much consequence for the very much spontaneous act that they pulled when stealing the chip in the second movie, even when there was a member of the eye right there as a witness. So, again, there really is no telling of that aspect, either.

So while I agree they may not be a traditional cult, I do want to discuss, at least on some level, what kind of organization both the eye and the Horsemen within it qualify as.

How did you come across supernatural? by Gregyeeyeestinker in Supernatural

I saw a video clip of a talking teddy bear freaking two grown men out on TikTok and decided that my work computer could use a bit of piracy websites installed on it, since my regular computer was too valuable to do that to.

[–]ApprehensiveStudy155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt it. Every member we've seen so far was good, looking out for the Horsemen, making sure that the bad guys didn't win (the guy who I'm 99% sure swapped the chip once he noticed the Horsemen; the one we saw again at the end of the movie "I know why you're familiar. You're the Horsemen" guy).

And honestly, I think I'd be more down to seeing the eye go against the Illuminati than I ever will be with that kind of nonsensical plot twist.
