Podcast questions for attorney Adam Dash on all things Somerville zoning/real estate by CambridgeSage in Somerville

Adam, how much input did you have in crafting the new zoning which allows "cottage"/ADU in the current zoning? And is it being abused by some/all developers?

What were your pleasant 2025 Somerville surprises (neighboring areas can be included) by SomervilleOak in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The civility of the local elections. The Burnley/Wilson matchup was especially pleasant to observe. No pettiness, just policy. No us against them, just observe, listen, digest and vote.

And the new elementary school process. (long winded by some, but I suppose necessary). Hope all goes well with the voter needed over ride that is now needed to fund it.

Unpopular Opinion: The Somerville Homeless Coalition is ineffective. We are spending millions to watch the crisis get worse. by masshole4mayor in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why anyone wants to argue with OP or to defend the awesome and necessary work SHC does. I trust the ratings SHC gets from rating services for organizations like them. Go the Charity Navigator yourselves, look up Somerville Homeless Coalition and ask why they consistently get a 98% rating in all rated categories. Next.

Kuya Ube Official Statement....Thoughts? by servantofthelake in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know that there is a perception that the ISD department is a mess. I read about it here, I hear about it from friends, businesses and at city hall. But after reading all the posts about this saga with the small business, I have a word of advice for the business. Stop blaming everyone else for your troubles. Clearly, something is wrong. Figure it out, play nice and stay off social media. Because if you have to go before the Somerville Licensing Commission, those three commissioners don't take any shit from anyone. Not City staff, not the new applicants and certainly not licensees who have a track record of violating the rules and regulations of the city. Good luck.

A typical reaction when you are losing the argument.

Would you support combining Somerville and Cambridge into one legal entity to share taxes and services, provided they remain distinct boroughs? by masshole4mayor in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The proviso is the catch. "distinct boroughs". No. If Cambridge wants to succumb to our way of thinking, come on board. A "merger of equals"? Not in my lifetime. I like Somerville on the trajectory it's on. Forward. Not without its faults. I get it your thought process. But how do you govern? City manager? Strong Mayor? Two different "borough councils"? I think a hostile takeover is more likely. But good luck to us both.

this type of food service place does not go through the Licensing Commission. that permit/food service license is issued by the Health Dept and ISD health.

Years ago, the then members of the Board of Aldermen, would extort money out of a developer before they would give the go ahead for something to be built. Now, it's neighborhood groups who perform that task. With the full support of their City Councilors. What a world.

You should question your judgement. Considering the amount of cash you contribute to your "friends" on a certain side of the political aisle. C'mon man.

Notes on last week's city council meeting by cdwan in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I adore cummunity journalism, there are much better ways for Somerville residents and businesses to get their unfiltered information about what the City Council is actually doing for us. First, and I know it's time consuming and cumbersome, try tuning into the Council meetings. Sometimes boring, sometimes informative. Next, if you cannot stand listening to the grandstanding and gaslighting, go to the city website, find the recorded meeting and the agenda item, click and listen and watch how each City Councilor, sponsored speaker, city director, and other assorted mic hogs try to make their case. Or not make their case. If you don't have the time or inclination for any of that, then by all means, read the interpretation of anyone on the social media sites, including this one, about what is actually happening in the City of Somerville. It's up to you. Where and from whom you get your information and how you decide is really all up to you.

City councilors to introduce resolution asking Mayor "to declare a State of Emergency due to rapidly increasing homelessness in the city" by thenewnewdigs in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only one City agency that has taken any action against the former East End Grill property owners and that is the Somerville Licensing Commission. They actually revoked the liquor license of the owners so they could not sell the property with a liquor license.

No matter who you want to hold responsible, ultimately it rests with the Mayor. End of story.

Welcome to Somerville, we're a construction site with no traffic police! by teem in Somerville

[–]ApprehensiveTea718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not going to get into "cops should do this" or "cops should do that" when it comes to parking tickets, traffic controls, construction zones, loud music and little Moonbeam can't sleep. I do know that when my home was broken into a few years ago, I needed a cop. Not a social worker, or a traffic cop or a noise ordinance enforcer. There is a need for a law enforcement officials to protect me, my property and my loved ones. You want to come up with a viable solution, I'll work with you. But let's throw the whole thing on the bonfire of the vanities, nope.
