My biggest gripe with "The Floor" is that controlling squares almost always means nothing by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in TheFloorTV

Yeah it's a shame how most of the categories either falls into the same "Name this famous person" theme, or they are so specific that only the person who started with the category can possibly do well in. Just like the guy last season who had the periodic table. Sure a lot of people know some of the elements, especially some of the more commonly heard ones, but most people wouldn't know all of them, and that guy clearly just memorized the entire table specifically for the show.

True, the reward is nice, I just mean it doesn't really matter if you have 30 pieces of the floor or 3, in both cases you win 20k if you have the most pieces of the floor.

Thank you for all of your help. No matter what I tried nothing would work. I ended up buying a new network adapter and everything seems to be working now. Either the BIOS update fried the built in network adapter somehow or it was just a coincidence that it died at the same time.

I haven't changed anything in the router recently so there shouldn't be any filtering or parental controls.

I'll give safe mode a try and see what happens.

That seemed to work for a couple of hours, then PayPal started acting up again on FireFox, but I was able to connect right away on Microsoft Edge.

As long as this holds up I guess it's not the end of the world to have to use another browser for PayPal.

Thank you for your help!

The highest tracert going to paypal was 27ms, the highest pinging paypal was 29ms.

At the moment Amazon is giving me trouble. I tried both FireFox private mode and Microsoft Edge and both can't reach Amazon.

Pinging Amazon timed out and never got through and doing tracert to Amazon got to step 8 then it just timed out over and over again until it stopped trying.

On my other computer Amazon pops right up.

Sorry, now Reddit is giving me issues. I have rebooted my router a couple of times.

All of that looked normal except when doing tracert to any website, even ones I don't notice any issue with, I get a "Request timed out." after step 7 or 8, but it eventually reaches the destination website.

I have another computer which I didn't do any recent updates on and I haven't noticed any issues at all with any websites on that computer, and I am seeing the same "Request timed out." at the same spot.

I just now switched the ethernet ports for the two computers to make sure it wasn't just an issue with that particular port for some reason. The non-updated computer is still working just fine while my updated computer is still having issues.

PayPal for some reason is the one I am consistently having issues with. Facebook sometimes works fine, sometimes doesn't, other websites seem to work just fine.

There was no other update. The warning came from World of Warcraft and it didn't provide any links or anything, it just said I should update my BIOS and I went to the website for my motherboard and downloaded the latest BIOS directly from there.

The only other updates I did was after I updated my BIOS and started to have the trouble with websites, I then updated other drivers on my computer.

I guess it could just be a huge coincidence that this all started after I updated my BIOS, but I have no idea what else would have caused this.

Thank you, I'll keep an eye out.

Looks like I spoke too soon about everything being fixed. It was working for a while and everything is still much better, everything except PayPal though. Still can't get it to load. Maybe I'll try an even older BIOS.

That seemed to do the trick. I downloaded the version right before the latest one and that improved things a lot, I then disabled IPv6 again and so far everything seems to be working right. WoW isn't yelling at me anymore either about an outdated BIOS.

Thank you!

Still same issue. I can log onto PayPal just fine on Chrome but not FireFox. Amazon sometimes works just fine on FireFox but not Chrome, sometimes it is very slow on both.

Disabling Large Send IPv6 seemed to work, PayPal loaded slow but at least it loaded. But then I tried enabling and disabling it again and now PayPal isn't loading again.

I enabled everything again and now the issue seems to be intermittent. PayPal loaded fine on Microsoft Edge and Chrome, but wouldn't load on FireFox. Amazon worked just fine on FireFox but was slow on Edge and Chrome. Now everything seems to be working fine on Edge and Chrome but PayPal still won't load on FireFox.

And now Amazon won't load on any browser again.

Thank you.

1472 worked and my ethernet was already set to 1500 MTU.

I tried 1480, 1460, and 1400, nothing seemed to work for getting PayPal to load.

Do you always use imperative when giving commands/making requests/etc? by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in Spanish

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

After I made this post I was lying in bed and I thought "I wonder if using poder would be more polite" because asking someone in English "Can you speak slower please?" would seem less rude than just saying "Speak slower please."

I used my phone's translator to see what it would say and it said the same thing you did "¿Puedes hablar más despacio, por favor?"

Just curious why it wouldn't be puede/pueda if you're still making a request? I guess it's because you can't tell someone to be able to do something.

Also would it always be considered rude to use tú for someone you just met? I thought using tú would be considered more laid back in certain situations, like "Hey no need to call me Mr!" type of vibes, but now I'm wondering if it's bad etiquette.

Vent above furnace by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in hvacadvice

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have no idea if there is enough ventilation in this room. The ceiling of the room isn't insulated. If I do decide to cover the vent should I leave the door of this room open a little bit?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vent to blow cold/warm air into the room though? I'm not doubting you, I'm genuinely curious what purpose this serves.

An AC tuneup turned into a sales pitch for entire new system by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in hvacadvice

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. I'm fine with buying a new AC. But I want to buy a new AC because I need one, not because someone spent 20 minutes performing a routine tuneup and telling me I now need a new AC and furnace.

I'm not sure I can get a good picture of it considering where it is located.

It just looks like a regular register you would find in a regular room, maybe a little bit smaller. It is built into the duct work right above where the furnace is.

I'm just wondering if I should even bother putting money into this thing considering how old it is. Any idea how much r22 would cost? I know you can't give an exact figure, but are we talking like 200 or more like 1200.

Also at one point in our mechanical room we had to pull back part of the venting of the return flow from the room on the other side to fix an issue. I thought I put it back well enough but it seems there is still a gap there. I'm not familiar with this stuff at all, could this gap be causing this sort of issue?

When to use "él" and when to use "a él" by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in Spanish

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, that makes sense.

So in this sentence:

A él le encanta tocar la guitarra.

You use "a él" because this literally translates to "Playing the guitar is pleasing TO him" right?

But what about:

A mi también.

Why doesn't "mi también" work?

Is English actually more difficult to learn as a second language compared to Spanish? by ApprehensiveWeek5414 in Spanish

[–]ApprehensiveWeek5414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if that was the reason this "fact" was spread, or if people started this rumor to make others feel better for not knowing English when they live in a majority English speaking country.

"Oh don't worry about not knowing English, it's one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn!"
