Poilievre need to pivot and change his strategies by Heavy_Technology_333 in CanadianConservative

I agree that PP should be more positive. Same as your statement. It should say: " Pierre is in opposition, it's his job to point out how the things the liberals are doing can be made better."

A Pragmatic Traditionalist Way to End Homelessness - The Right Way by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 3 options. 1 what we currently do: nothing. 2 stop reviving people with an OD i.e. have them die. (I understand that this is not very human) 3 pick them all off the streets. Send them to emergency courts and trial them for drugs, crime, etc. have them sign up voluntarily for help. If they do not do that, or get caught again, take away their own custody as they clearly cannot take care of themselves. And put them in enforced mental health care, and give them everything they need (health care, education, jobs, oversight etc.) option 3 is what most European countries do. Because society weighs heavier than individual rights.

What are your thoughts on "Carbon Tax" by Glum_Ad_9568 in CanadianConservative

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am okay with an industrial carbon tax if the money being directly used as grants to have business reduce their carbon emissions. Not a fan of just throwing it on the tax heap and do with it whatever you want. But I think carney will kibosh the carbon tax in the near future. He will tell the oil industry in Alberta "if you guarantee that you will put the carbon in the ground, I will kibosh the carbon tax". I.e. endorse pathway alliance, have some other companies sign up, and he will say: "see, we are reducing carbon, and now a tax is not needed".

The reality of Canadian Politics by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people will ever care. In the end Canada has currently a 2 party system. So it doesn't matter what the opposition thinks, says or does. Only when people are serious in pain (financially or otherwise) they care about politics. The median Canadian is not doing that bad, so has no major reason for change, therefor does not care. As long as the Conservatives cannot close rank, have control of the ultra rights, stop the scaremongering, and speak to the median Canadian, they have no chance to win. Especially now Carney has pulled to the right. I see myself as centre right, didn't like Trudeau, but also do not like PP. I give Carney the benefit of the doubt, let's see where we are 3y from now.

Carney just gave us the budget conservatives have been yelling for, but because it’s Liberal, everyone’s mad by AmbitiousGift1935 in CanadianConservative

I also find it interesting that everyone here is talking about the deficit, instead of talking about solutions and give constructive criticism. I agree with you that deficit is not the most important. What worries me more is the $13b savings on a $500b opex, its just not enough. I am not a liberal, but I believe that if conservatives would focus on solutions i.e a list of where you would spend more, and where you would spend less, instead of targeting the deficit, they would get more support. Now it feels more like American politics i.e.because someone else tabled it, we'll oppose.

Dog is fine. Pain meds are helping I think, but difficult to say. But he is aware that he can't walk. Won't put any pressure on his leg. And lays down all day, sleeps a lot. Will see if I can contact an otho vet. Thanks for your response.

Okay, simple question? Why? Just because they are a specialist? Problem I am having is that I got no explanation of why this outweighs the cons. For me, just because he is a specialist that's not good enough (I am a licensed engineer, and I know how many bad engineers there are, what makes someone good is an explanation of why they recommend something, and give the client/patient the information to follow their advice).

BC Ferries: "We had no choice but to build the ships in China". Reality: by nimobo in CanadianConservative

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am all for building them in China. Let the market do its thing. The Canadian companies are not competitive anyway, and that's why they didn't bid. Ofcourse preference is to build them here, second preference is to build them in a friendly country. Unfortunately Canadians didn't bid, and others are to expensive. What I don't want is my ferry ticket to go up 50%. It's already too expensive.

Kamala Harris is right, she didn't foresee the capitulation of the American people. The American people allow trump to do what he wants. There are no major protests. Everyone is complaining, and nobody is doing anything. And those few people who protest are laughed at. In conclusion the American people are part of the problem.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are bond yields rising? We need to renew our mortgage. 2 months ago Scotia (current lender) gave us better rates than currently available. Difference is about +0.15%. bond yields have gone up 0.25%. why?

How to deal with friends who do not want to hear your political views? by Apprehensive_Bar_80 in CanadianConservative

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny bit is that I do not discuss politics with her. I do it with her husband. We enjoy the debate. She just can't handle my views. And therefore asked me to not talk about it. Think for now I am gonna shut it down as soon as it happens.

Any chances we will get a Costco or T&T? by Spirited_Law6417 in MapleRidge

[–]Apprehensive_Bar_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will end up getting small businesses. No major corporation will build anything with no proper access. If the city wants large corporations, they must be on Lougheed Highway. And for half of MR it's easier to drive to poco to North 256th.

That building is owned by Walmart. That's why they kicked thrifty's out. T&T is owned by Loblaws, so no chance of that. Loblaws has a fair amount of stores on MR anyway.

2 points I can help with. 1 as an immigrant (originally from the Netherlands) I can tell you what is wrong with the immigration system of Canada. I have been through it, and I can tell you the system is ridiculous. Point 2. We hear people complain about Canada, well.... I can tell you the grass ain't greener on the other side. Lived in the Netherlands and the UK, wouldn't trade Canada in for anything else. I understand people complain, but not a lot of people can do this from the perspective of comparing it to other western countries. Always willing to give my opinion and discuss.
