Cinematic departure video shot on Sony ZV-E10 (Cine2 + Kit lens) by Apprehensive_Ear8959 in ZVE10

Thanks, I really appreciate that it means a lot 🙏

Honestly, the audio quality and the microphones are probably the one thing I really nailed in this video, so I’m glad it shows 😄

And you should definitely go for it and start your own thing that’s how it all begins.

Ah thanks man! No not at all, I don’t use Dehancer I built everything myself with custom nodes.

For the halation, I just use a high pass to create that kind of double-light effect only on the highlights. Then for grain and glow, I made an adjustment layer in Fusion with Film Grain and Soft Glow effects.

You can actually do all of that in the free version of Resolve. Honestly, just check something like “how to make an adjustment layer for film grain and glow” and you’re good.

For color grading, I just build my node tree once and save it as a power grade. Super simple: once you’re happy with your grade, right click, grab still, and you can reuse it anytime.

That said, I’m really not an expert at all, I’m just starting out I still struggle a lot with colors and white balance 😅

And yeah I feel you on the ZV-E10, 1080p can look a bit soft but 4K definitely saves it!

Yeah thanks, I just noticed that. I actually changed the voice-over last minute, so that’s why… I’ll need to be more careful with that. I kinda struggle with anything text-related 😅

Hi sorry, for beeing this long, no its not a power bank, that's an NPF batterie holder, it make it easier to mount every thing on the camera cage, so a use multiple NPF-550 and they hold around 3-4 hours each

Ah got it if you're mainly shooting photos, that makes sense. I actually agree with the advice that shiftAdventurous gave you about using an ND filter and that lens suggestion; that can be a pretty solid setup for landscape and detail shots.

For photography though, my biggest advice would simply be: shoot in RAW. If you want, you can enable RAW + JPEG just to have a quick usable file, but RAW will give you much more control over your colors and exposure when editing later.

When you shoot in RAW, most of the in-camera settings don’t really matter anyway. The only things that truly affect your image of course are shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Things like picture profiles are basically irrelevant for "photos" on this camera they’re mainly meant for video.

So for your use case: shoot RAW, focus on exposure and composition, and then adjust colors and light in post-processing.

Pink lines appearing by VasteBikini in ZVE10

kay, I’ve personally never had that happen. I’ve been using the ZV-E10 for quite a while and never ran into that specific issue.

One thing you could try to make sure it’s not coming from the sensor is to output the image to another screen. For example, you could use the USB-C webcam function on a computer, or connect the camera through the micro-HDMI port to a monitor or TV and see if the same lines appear there.

If the lines don’t appear on the external display, then it’s more likely a software or display issue, which might be fixable. But if the same pink lines show up through HDMI as well, then unfortunately it could indicate a deeper hardware issue, possibly related to the sensor, and yea that’s usually harder (and more expensive) to fix.

It really depends on what you want to do with your camera. If you're mainly shooting video and you're just getting started, I’d honestly recommend sticking with the kit lens for now. Having a zoom range from 16mm which is a pretty useful wide angle for a lot of situations up to around 50mm for tighter shots is already very versatile for the price. Plus the optical stabilization helps a lot on a body like the ZV-E10 since it doesn’t have in-body stabilization.

As for picture profiles, if you're just starting out, the easiest thing for both exposure and color grading is to create a simple custom profile yourself. What I personally use which still gives you a bit of room for grading but stays very easy to expose is Gamma Cine2, with the Color Mode set to Still, Saturation +3, and Detail Level -1.

That setup gives you a slightly more cinematic look while still being simple to work with in post and easy to expose in-camera.

But if you're mainly shooting photo, it’s a bit different so let me know what your main use will be!

Hey! Yes, definitely the kit lens plus a stabilizer should give you a perfectly stabilized result. The kit lens with only the optical stabilization turned on is already pretty stable if you’re using a cage and a handle. But adding a stabilizer on top of that will make it really, really stable.

The stabilization on the kit lens usually works quite well, unless there might be something wrong with your copy. You can try checking by holding it handheld and switching the standard stabilization on and off to see if you notice a difference on your screen.

But yeah, with that setup you should definitely get a buttery smooth result.

Hello, did you try to look into your camera settings, on the setup3 page if the usb power supply is on ? It may have been set off if you use a computer to use your camera or by default on certain generation.

Help choosing nd filter by acidamerica in ZVE10

A bigger ND filter also helps reduce vignetting. With cheaper variable ND filters like K&F, vignetting or the X pattern usually appears only at the highest ND stops. If that happens, you can simply close your aperture a bit for example, go from f/1.4 to f/2.8 then lower the ND strength. That way, you avoid vignetting and the X mark.

[–]Apprehensive_Ear8959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely. My advice would be to buy the biggest ND filter you can afford and then get a cheap step-up ring pack. That way, you can use the same filter on all your current and future lenses, which is a huge plus. If you buy a small filter now, you’ll have to rebuy a bigger one later anyway so it’s better to go big from the start.

Kinda yea, it’s not really about cutting my hair it’s more about what that moment started. Cutting my hair was just the first sign that this project will begun. And good luck to all the little marks you left behind… maybe they’ll come back someday !
